"Honking cams" and 73' Camaro....did it have some experimental engine from Zora Arkus Duntov? Yeah those "muscle cars" back then really weren't that fast, even your HEMI Cuda's would turn 13's to high 12's, hell my 87' GN did that with bolt ons and stock/tired engine and trans w/100k+!
Yeah, 135 on those type of tires and suspension back in the day must've been scary for sure! Oh yeah, just splitting hairs on the "honking cam(s) wording and thought it was funny.

Some were scary indeed. Like I ended up with a now VERY RARE Alabama Trooper Javelin. Those had a 425hp 401, automatic, slap stick, 4:10 locker, riding on SEVENTY SERIES bias ply tires!!!!!! Holy CRAP! That thing would break loose at 50, slapping it down to 2nd and stomping it. Try a WOT start and it wouldn't stop smoking till you let off, period. Just freaking sat there and boiled the tires. It was stupid!

I had a 71 Comet GT with one of those big ol honkin' cams in a 4 bolt 302 w/ .612 lift, Speed Pro 12:7 pop-up pistons with shaved 351 heads (14:1 compression), 850 NASCAR carb and a 9" rear gear from under a Torino with a 429/shaker that was 1½" too long on each end! That puppy would pull the front wheels off the ground and my wife drove it too. (well, girlfriend at the time).
