Hey guys, im from CT and recently lost my car in an accident. In an effort to get another one and with many requests I have decided to take up detailing on the side for some cash. Im not that good at it right now but just like my mechanical skills after being part of the board for awhile im pretty sure ill get the hang of things.

My first job is a 2000 Land Rover Discovery. And ohhhh how i realized how much work can suck :pc7424:

This car is pretty dirty and beat so dont be surprised if i ask you guys for some help. Id post a picture but its a Land Rover not one of the bimmers/european sports cars you guys would love to see and id love to work on.

I made a pretty big order from autogeek the other day so in a couple days ill get started. :buffing:

Hi Kush,

Welcome to Autogeek Online! :wavey

Detailing can be a lot of hard work and some body styles are worse than others. Car bodies with lots of thin panels which usually means raised body lines are the worst in my opinion as compared to body styles were all the panels are smooth and rolling.

For example, I would rather buff out a Corvette than a Hummer just because of all the complicated panels on a Hummer.

Lots of pebble textured plastic trim can also be a nightmare, that's why buffing out classic cars is a lot more enjoyable, a 1966 GTO for example only has paint, chrome and glass for the most part. Compare that to just about any 1990's compact car to mid-size and S.U.V.

That's where painter's tape can come in real handy, while it's important to be careful not to get any polish residue on pebble textured trim painter's tape will provide you with a little extra protection.

Another real important thing to focus on is don't get caught up trying to create swirl free finishes for daily drivers, instead keep your daily drivers limited to washing, claying and using a cleaner/wax.

If you are doing show car detailing then you have to make sure you're charging for it.

:)
