Hey guys. My names derek, I'm 19 and live in sacramento CA. Been checking out the forum everyone seems really cool and helpful! Ive been detailing my own cars and family cars for years. Over the last year ive been doing side work from craigslist and referrals, all mobile work out of my truck. I'm looking to step my game up a lot, I just bought a van and want to get some much better equipment and try some new products. Currently for paint ive been using a DA variable speed I bought from harbor freight(Chicago electric tools) and the professional line of products from meguiars. Also just a regular vacuum, so I would like to get a carpet extractor. Was wondering what you guys recommend for a polisher&pads, as well as a carpet extractor(been looking at a mytee lite but seems a little pricey). Thanks so much for any thoughts. I really appreciate it!

Thanks, Derek

If I were you imo I would go for a gg6 or porter cable 7424 d.a...and probably some lake country 5.5 or 6 inch pads to start off with. Make sure you get a few of each. Mike phillips has a bunch of how to videos on choosing a d.a. and all different pads. As far as the extractor goes I 've seen alot of people using the mytee or mcholloc (I know I spelt that wrong). All I use is a small bissel extractor but it works for me doing mobile detailing. Plus I don't have much extra room in my van nowadays. You will probably get alot of other suggestions as well. I figured I'd give ya a head start in the right direction

Right on thanks man. Ill check those out!

If you already have a Harbor Freight machine, then a Porter Cable or GG6 will be a lateral move for you. I would get a Flex 3401. They are workhorses that really cut down on time during paint correction. Lake Country Hybrid pads (I think they replaced them with "force" pads now) and Menzerna FG400, PF2500 and SF4000 and you are good to go!

For carpet extractors I use the $100 Bissell spot machine. It takes a little longer, but I only detail part time and I'm not dropping the coin on a Mytee Lite....

Thanks! Yah I was thinking the flex, seems a little pricey but worth it! Also ive always just used wax, what are your thoughts on sealants?

Welcome. Flex is definitely worth it and cheaper than a lot of other polishers on the top end of the chart. Sealants and wax will come down to what you are looking for?

In terms of durability:

Coatings: 2+ years
Sealants: 3-6 months, sometimes more
Wax: No too long.. except Collinite.

P.S. Flex 3401..or the new random orbital. Everyone who recommends flex is conditioned to say flex with regards to the 3401. The new random orbital is just that...new. We are not used to it yet lol.

My vote goes for the flex 3401 if you already have a HF DA.
