Whats your favorite chain store Car Wash/Shampoo?

What can be done on the cheap to soften it up

You can just use one canister instead of two. Use the water softener filter cartridge instead of the filter only cartridge.

The canister cost$49.99 and the softener cartridge cost $19.99.

It is money well spent.

A $30-$70 car washing tool can only be used on exotics?

I hope you're kidding.

Getting back to the OP's ??
If you have an AutoBarn near you, they sell P21s Conditioning Bodywork Shampoo and Sonax Gloss Shampoo.
And if it hasn't already been mentioned, I would think Advance Auto sells Griots Car Wash.
As far as favorite, I picked up the Sonax and like it very much.
Since I only place orders large enough to avoid shipping charges once or twice per year, it's nice to have a place where I can pick up one or two decent items OTC.

Turtle wax ice soap I think is very nice. I'm not a fan of wash and wax soaps which seem to be all over the place. The only one of those I use is meguiars ultimate wash and wax. But TW ice soap suds like crazy has a really nice smell and rinses clean. There are plenty others out there too but since they stopped selling Meg's nxt soap here it's become my new favorite

DG901 seems to be the consensus here, but if you can't find it OTC in your area, I agree with the above. I've used the TW Ice also and it does have good suds and seems to have VERY good "lubricity" (to steal a term from Larry Kosilla).

If you can find it DG901 is a very good product. If not Mothers California Gold Carnauba Wash & Wax is only $12.99 for 64 oz. or Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo & Conditioner which is also $12.99 for 64 oz. You should have no trouble finding Mothers or Meguiars locally.

The nice thing about those big jugs is they last a long time. I've forgotten how long it's been since I picked up the jug I'm using now. In fact it's been so long I don't know where I got it or even how much I paid.
