Just wondering which pad you guys like best around 5.5" Dia for PO85RD ???

What about a cutting pad for Menzerna FG 400 for heavy swirls?

Thanks in advance for your experiences and opinions! :dblthumb2:

What kind of car is it?? You want to do a test spot with the least aggressive first. FG400 and a cutting pad is hitting it pretty hard...especially if it's a soft paint.

Pictures of the swirls would be helpful...

Cutting pad it all depends on the paint, but finishing pad i always go with H20 crimson

Are you talking about the Hydrotech pads from LC? Ive yet to try those. What about them makes them better in your opinion?

From what i've gathered, 85rd is now know as SF4500. I have no experience with the new product, but i used 85rd a lot as a final finishing polish.

In that application I would use it with a non abrasive wax application pad. 85rd is fine enough that with a non abrasive pad, you can have an almost perfect surface after using it.

I use 85rd with a blue uber pad works as a finishing polish

As to the FG400 question, I spent several hours getting rid of some fairly severe swirls on the hood of my neglected BMW last weekend (several years worth of machine car washes before I caught the detailing bug) using a Megs microfiber cutting pad with FG400. It worked well, but was pretty hard on the pads. Finished with Menzerna SF4000 with a black CCS pad. Came out well overall. Might try an orange LC pad with the FG400 on the trunk next weekend for comparison.

Yes, the Hydrotech pads. What makes them so good is that they finish down better than any other comparable pads I've tried, and I've tried a lot. Even the cyan cutting pad and a finishing polish will finish down LSP ready on most paints. Tangerine pad is a favorite of mine also for softer paints that need a little cut and still finish down perfectly. The crimson is my go to for all wax/sealant/AIO situations and with most finishing/jeweling situations as well.

The only downside is that the cyan pads don't have a long life span compared to other pads, but they are so good, I don't care, I buy in bulk.

Good stuff. I usually use Meg's Soft Buff 2.0 pads, I will look into these when I need a bit more cut, but not more than the MF system. Thanks for the input.

I have tried SF4500 with all of the finishing pads out there. Right now my favourite pad with it is the Gold Jeweling pad.

Just from feel alone. It is a lot different than the red/blue/black finishing pads. It is much softer and more subtle.

FG400 works well with orange 99.9% of the time. If you need more cut, yellow or a foamed wool can be used.
