What's your occupation?

I agree, fascinating and stressful when working in the field.
I love detailing for many reasons, but the best for me is: Cars don't talk back :xyxthumbs:

For sure. And I imagine it's a thankless job at times. Psychologists and Psychiatrists get a bum rap a lot of times. Always amazes me to hear criticisms to people not willing to try the techniques and advice given by their counselor/psychiatrist, who just immediately dismiss them AND their counselor/psychiatrist because it doesn't SOUND like it'll work. Of course, you see it in the medical profession a lot too; people discounting the advice from their doctor because of what they read in a magazine or saw online. My wife used to manage a private medical practice that had 3 doctors. They had a young patient come in in shock, they rushed him downstairs to the ER. Nearly died. Not only had the mother given him peanuts that she knew he was alergic too, she was ADAMANT and swore up and down that this reaction was NOT due to the peanuts. Why? Apparently some Dr. Oz episode talked about curing allergies by "cleansing and detoxing the body". And since she had followed Dr. Oz's advice, there's no possible way her son could have had a reaction to the peanuts. Amazing that if you're on TV, you suddenly have more credentials than a medical school graduate with potential residencies, board certifications, and experience.

As far as I know to this day she still thinks her kid didn't have a reaction. Her Doctor is just a quack and doesn't know any better! Dr. Oz though, he's the real deal! He cured her sons allergies by telling him to drink some herb or something!

I bring that up because, on occasion, people come to be after seeing a counselor or psychiatrist. The vast majority of any counseling I do is pre-marital or related to death and grieving (when I do a loved ones funeral). The latter is largely just listening to stories and asking questions about their loved one. The former is largely just asking questions and making sure the couple is prepared to take that step, and has put some real thought into it (amazing how many couples want to get married but have never even TALKED about kids, and find out that one wants several kids and the other wants none! And they were gonna get married without ever discussing it!). Once in a blue moon someone will call me because their doctor is a 'quack' and they want a 'Christian counselor'. If I do talk to them, I usually find that they got sound, professional advice- but usually advice that requires them to make some changes or do something themselves. What they were REALLY wanting, was someone to tell them everything is someone elses fault and that they just got dealt a bad hand!

I was a psychotherapist for a few years. It's what I went to school for. I really liked my work. I worked with clients coming out of a hospitalization. The facility I was at was a place to help them get reaclimated to living on their own. Most of these clients were paranoid sychizophrenics. Unfortunately, like many of these jobs, it was a county-funded and the pay was terrible.
I ended up leaving the job for an admin position that paid a lot more.
Eventually I went to school again, and got another degree in visual communications where once again, I am making a substantial amount more doing photoshop.
It's crazy how much some jobs pay, yet others in the social work group pay peanuts.
Society makes no sense sometimes with priorities.

I work at National Grid in NY natural gas and electric in the north east and overseas. I do alot of clerical work in the office in our local call center, it gets crazy but its fun most of the time

Security Rep at a major defense contractor. Hands down the most boring job I have ever worked, but it pays well so I take out my frustration when detailing cars!

Ebay Powerseller full time --- wash cars for car dealers in the summer when needed

You both bring up very valid points in mental health---
Climbing the ladder to my degrees was a grinding experience.

It's unfortunate that many good willed people who work in group homes and facilities are grossly underpaid for their work and effort. Thanks come few and far between, but the few that do- feel good.

It's a field that people need to specialize in areas to make a name for themselves. My behavioral work is the most frustrating with clients, as Roman noted, because many principals of behavior can contradict " common sense" or how people typically react to behavior.

Cheers guys:dblthumb2:

First post for me and I see the first one in 2014. I am in Law Enforcement (20 yrs). I stumbled onto the site while researching ways to detail cars to flip. I have read ALL of the 592 "Show and Shine" pages and have flipped 2 cars in the past two weeks. I am thankful to all I have learned on here as it makes detailing much more fun and productive.

I own and teach at a martial arts academy (Taekwondo)
It's an awesome job

I'm in Law Enforcement and run a small side business painting rims/cars with Plasti Dip. Looking to add detailing to the side business which is why I signed up here ;)

I'll be attending the Academy this fall. Any advice or recommendations?

Run run and run! My biggest downfall in the academy was not preparing for running but I made it through fine. The book work was all pretty basic and easy as long as you use common sense and pay attention. Don't talk back to any instructors either, they wont like that. Good luck and PM me if you need any advice!

In house Alarm, CCTV and low voltage tech
Firearms super freak
Wood smoke barbeque fanatic

Desktop Publishing/graphic design for a printing company.
Little detailing on the side for friends and family

USAF, security forces. Looking to go ANG at the end of the year so I can go to the LE Academy and hopefully get hired relatively quick!

:iagree: stay in shape. Also stay under the radar. I dont know what your states requirements are but lots of sit up I seen many guys fail because of the sit ups and the run.

Book work is easy the hardest book stuff I had was all the case law on the state exam I had to take
