Wheel Cleaner Help

Is there a chart that lists the available wheel cleaners and how strong they are? There is a list of compounds and polishes and the aggressiveness of them. I was wondering if there was something similar for wheel cleaners. I'm looking to add a "mild" wheel cleaner to my products. I bought Meguiar's Wheel Brightner and it really is stronger than I need 99% of the time. I'd also prefer a wheel cleaner that foams. Any input?
 
Have you tried Megs d143? You can dilute to the strength you desire, then put in a bottle with a foaming sprayer.

I have not tried this wheel cleaner. Honestly Meguiars wheel brightener is the first I've ever used and I really don't need something this strong.

I'll definitely have to look into this. The new McKee wheel gel has caught my interest. It foams and I read a post where Nick said it was designed to foam when agitated. I'm just wondering how "strong" of a wheel cleaner it is. Honestly, I have PBL wheel coating on my rims and I don't get a ton of break dust. I usually just clean with car soap, but I'd like to have a lighter duty wheel cleaner on hand.
 
Another question, how do wheel cleaners affect coatings? Do they cause them to fail quicker? Should I just stick with washing with car shampoo?

Coatings should be pretty resistant to most cleaners, I really don't know if they stand up to HF/ABF cleaners like Meg's Wheel Brightener (which are really dangerous and you should be careful with).

If you have coated wheels usually you will only need shampoo for regular cleanings. If you're doing a higher intensity periodic cleaning you could use one of the color changing cleaners, or some of the alkaline cleaners mentioned.

If you want something that's stronger than shampoo but not as strong as the above, take a look at these, which are safe detergent-based products:

P21S Wheel Cleaner Kit -(Reg) 500ml. (16.9 oz.)

P21S Wheel Cleaner-*Gel 500ml. (16.9 oz.)

Griot's Garage Wheel Cleaner, Griots Garage Wheel Cleaner, wheel cleaning

I've used Griot's green wheel cleaner in the past and it was GREAT. Pretty affordable and very safe for maintenance wheel cleaning. Don't remember if foamed or not upon agitation.

Especially if you buy it in the gallon. Sure it foams up, it's "soap".
 
Along the lines of Mother's wheel cleaners, I really like this one. The foaming action is great and it isn't too strong.

I haven't tried the Griots product and haven't used the P21S products in about 15 years. However, I found the P21S products to be no better than car shampoo they were so mild. Hopefully they have strengthened the product in that time. I liked the gel, but couldn't justify the cost based on the lack of cleaning action.
