Planning a new project, what's new, wondering what everyone's go-to wheel coating is.

The wheels are not going to be subjected to extremes, so in theory I could simply use a paint coating, but I would rather stay with an application specific coating.

I have also used NV Wheel, but it didn't wow me. At the moment, I'm leaning towards DLUX, which I've used before but not on wheels rather plastic trims. Also, is Gliss necessary on top of DLUX?

I'd just use some left over paint coating when your done with the vehicle.

I've never used a coating specifically marketed towards wheels, but have had great results with CQUK and Mohs EVO on wheels.

For ages I've used 845 on wheels with broader surfaces, with quite a good result.

With the advent of spray coatings, I have not used a dedicated wheel coating in years. Currently have TWHS Spray coating on mine. Touch up with their wet wax as needed. Wheels are close to 5 years old and still look good. They see all kinds of weather.

Dlux is an excellent choice for your wheels and no you do not need to top it with Gliss. Gliss is used to top Cquartz Uk by some or as a stand alone.

DLUX is not bad. It may not wow you though. Hopefully it gets a formula tweak one day to be more durable. I would recommend you apply 2 layers if you use it. Expect about 18 months out of it on wheels. You will more than likely top it so it will last longer.

22ple VM1 is better but the issue is getting a hold of it and it being in stock.

I am currently testing the Armour Detail Supply Wheel Coating and I will say that it has much more solids than DLUX. I have high hopes for it but time will tell.

Also, is Gliss necessary on top of DLUX?

No it is not. Matt does it because he does not like that DLUX is tacky.

I tend to use whatever leftover coating I have . For the most recent '22, I used Dlux on the Summer wheels and a bottle of Gyeon Trim on the winters. When it comes time to swap them, rinse and repeat on top up on whatever is in the stash. IMO the wheels see more abuse than paint so I just reup when I'm swapping wheels regardless of if there is still life on them. It's easier to recoat when wheels off than off...

These are so much nicer than a square block when you're working every nook and cranny on the spoke, or openings of spoke and barrel

I use DLUX on wheels and plastic trim. As The Guz said, it is tacky....but not terrible. It's worked very well for me. I typically give it a little boost now and again with Ethos Defy.

I heard someone say that ceramic coatings aren’t ideal on chrome wheels because they can leave a “haze” over chrome wheels. Anybody experience that? I haven’t tried on my wheels yet.

No experience with Chrome but in the similar comparison on non clear coat alum and doing a full metal high polish
After coating, while it wasn't cloudy....but it was not as brilliant as it was when the alum was in it's finial high polish state.

That’s what I’m afraid of.

I've used Dlux on chrome wheels with no hazing. I know it's not a true ceramic coating, but I can't see the difference.

YMMV. Many others have said they see no indifference .....

For me, it's like spending hours until the jewelers rogue wasn't black at all and the minute I applied the coating, I wish I didn't.

You will like IGL wheel. I like it on top of IGL eclipse.

After your mention of this product, I was expecting it would be off limits to me in Australia. To my surprise, Armour Detail ship directly to Australia for a very reasonable amount, so I decided to take a punt on it. Will be my next "project" when I get a week off in October.

Great product. Goes on thick. Better than DLUX and of course Gtechniq and Gyeon.

Looking forward to your thoughts on this.

I only have one similar product to compare it to on wheels, so not sure how useful my review will be.

I'm sort of worried about the thickness, I'm still relatively new to coatings.

Does that mean thick as in its a thick/sticky liquid, or you lay it down thick?

Don’t stress over it. It’s not a hard to use coating. Have multiple applicators available as the coating does cure hard rather.

I have that covered, going to try the Gyeon or Carpro finger mitts. Last time I did wheels, I was using a suede cloth that came with the coating, wasn't ideal in my opinion.

Thanks for the support, much appreciated.
