On my Cadillac the face of the wheels is chrome. down in the spokes is a rough finish casr area . I know there are several wheel glazes and protectants and assume they are made for smooth areas . What should I use on the rough cast areas to protect and make them easier to clean ? Idea - don't let them get dirty !:D

you can use the wheel sealants in those areas too ... just use a little more pressure on MF towel when removing. Those are the areas needing most protection, as the brake dust seems to accumulate and stick there otherwise.

must be a gm thing. my suburbans 20's have the same rough backside.

Scott ,
What is your favorite wheel sealant for this application?

I had a similar thread recently and Optimum's OptiSeal was recommended. I just applied my first coat this morning so I don't have any real feedback other than to say when I applied it, it was VERY slick feeling and the final dried seal seems quite nice. I will reply again sometime this week to see how things are progressing.

PB Wheel Sealant last about 2-3 weeks with weekly washings in my applicaiton. I just applied two coats to see if that helps. In comparision to DP Wheel Sealant, I like PB's better because its easier to apply, remove, and has better duriablity.

Do you clean your wheels with soap and water or do you use a wheel cleaner?

P21S Gel about once a month and P21S wheel cleaner once a week

I use DG Aquawax. Allows me to use QD to clean my wheels for months.

FK1 Hi Temp or DG 105 both work great and are easy to use

poorboys wheel sealant all day. thats what I use on all of our vehicles.

P21S Gel about once a month and P21S wheel cleaner once a week

Doesn't the wheel cleaner have a tendency to remove the wheel sealant? If you clean as much as you do, you should be able to just use soap and water.

Well 1 week later I washed the car. Here is a little feedback on the OptiSeal. I would say that over the week the amount of brake dust on the rims was slightly less but not overwhelming.

The real difference came when cleaning and drying. Cleaning was about as easy as I could imagine. I sprayed with P21S gel as usual, let it sit about 10-15 minutes, rinsed and then used a sponge to finish up. The faintest brush with the sponge removed the remaining dust. Cleaning the corners of the spokes was also easier. The rims beaded very nicely and drying was also easy.

At least for 1 wash, I saw no degradation in the seal by using P21S. Not sure long term what affect it will have but it certainly did not remove the seal immediately.

Use to use PB Wheel Sealant but I absolutely hated having to buff and intricately apply the product after a long detail. Have since used Optiseal and found the application style with a MF and just how fast it is to apply far overrides using PB's. You can do OS every other wash as well.

I am a firm believer than after using a wheel sealant you should only need car soap and water to clean for several weeks. A wheel cleaner, even P21S, likely removes all the sealant or wax product immediately.

I have no doubt that you could have cleaned my rims with water and a MF alone. Before I started I took my finger and easily wiped a streak clean. I am just in the habit of using P21 and didnt alter my normal cleaning. But, the Optiseal added a distinct slickness to my rims last week (as you would expect) and it remained after this cleaning and the beading was still strong.
