Just wondering how everyone cleans the wheel wells. I've always just reached in and scrubbed them by hand best I could. They looked Ok, but nothing special. There has got to be an easier way. And somehow to get them to look better.

I spray them down with some Meguiar's APC or Safe D-Greaser, scrub them with the Mother's Fender Well brush, and rinse with water. That's the cleaning part. The real "wow" factor comes from dressing them. Personally, I use Griot's Undercarriage Spray to dress my wheel wells, but you can use whatever your favorite vinyl protectant is.

I use DP Cleanse All, this stuff rocks and hard to clean areas. I use the long handled green bristle brush and takes no time.

Another vote for the DP Cleanse All and the Mother's fender well brush. I then spray it with 303.

Wheel wells are not something IMO you should spend a lot of product money on. A simple APC or degreaser will work fine. Spray then get a good brush like the mothers but any will really do the spray cleaner and let it penetrate. Apply the dressing of your choice. I use regular old armor all as it is is cheap and I do not truly need protective properties, I just want something to darken the wells. Plus you can get a half gallon of it for under $10

Might be a somewhat silly question, but do you just spray the dressing in the fender weels? Not worrying to much as to what it gets on inside the well?

Doesn't matter too much bochte if you rinse well with water.

A good brush ... some DP Exterior Cleaner .... and after drying a coat of a cheap aerosol tire dressing to blacken them up.

I cover the tread of my tires so when I start spraying from the top it doesnt drip on to the tire which could lead to a bad accident. I just give a healthy dose of the AA and let it drip to the garage floor where I have cardboard covering where the tires are. When I remember I take an old viking mit and wipe the excess off. Easy process should not take more than 5 mins per wheel including cleaning the tires and rims.

I notice a lot of people using the DP exteior cleaner. Is it really that good for wheel wells? Currently I use Simple Green dilluted 1:1 and the Mothers wheel well brush.

after seeing a set of uncoated aluminum wheels easily damaged from Simple Green ... I will NEVER use it anywhere near a car again.

:iagree:

Simple Green has no place in a detailer's arsenal. It's just too strong to use anywhere on the car. Not only can it cause damage to uncoated metals, but a lot of wheel wells are plastic which turns grey after repeated Simple Green cleanings.
