hi
using a 7424 with sip and 106a on 5 year old Boxster. Looks like previous owner did nothing but wax. No oxidation but lots of spiderwebbing.

80% of the car came out good to great but still have some spiderwebbing on trunk and heavier on bumpers. question is should I just keep going over it with the SIP or go to the compound. Whats the downside of using the compound?

Downside is that you will have to go back over those areas again with SIP and 106a too. :D

I also did a Boxster this summer and found that the bumpers required M105 to remove what a lesser polished accomplished on the rest of the car.

Yeah what color pad did you use with the SIP? If you were using orange, why don't you try yellow w/SIP, then orange w/SIP, then white w/106.

compound is just another word for polish....i would hit it agian with the sip....and yes, what pad are you using....

If he's using LC pads, yellow wouldn't be a good idea. Those are only used for oxidation mostly.

(if he were too) can't he just go yellow w/sip and then white w/106fa instead of doing another step with orange?

Yellow is a very aggressive pad, and really only used for oxidation. If you can't correct the problem with the orange, then you should step up to a more aggressive compound such as M105 or Power Gloss starting with a white pad. You always want to start with the least aggressive combo.

You do not want to take such a big step in pads, plus he should finish 106fa with a blue pad. Too many people on here are telling people to finish with a white pad and you should finish with a blue pad. I would do a 106fa on a white pad then finish with 106fa on a blue pad. There are no short cuts in doing this correctly. Sounds like you are going to have to go over the areas with the sip and orange pad, if that doesn't work you will need to switch to a compound. What compound do you have on hand?

thanks for all responses-
sorry- should have said was using orange pad.
Talked to customer service. They recommended going to compound/yellow pad then back to SIP/orange and 106a/white.

Does yellow seem to agressive for finish that isnt oxidized?

I would try the compund with the orange pad first, then the sip with a white pad and then finish up with 106fa on a blue pad. Remember you might have to go over the area a couple times with compound and then a couple times with the sip to remove any haze or swirls the compound induced. Then follow with the blue pad with 106fa for a nice glossy finish.

Usually oxidation comes out a LOT easier than RIDS and swirls, and doesn't usually require aggressive compounds.

thinking of getting Menzerna Power Gloss.
was going to go 106a with white then Wolfgang 3.0 with blue-no?

Those two are about the same, I prefer the 106fa, so go with the 106fa on a blue pad. Power Gloss is nice and so is M105, both finish down nicely.

Go with what ASPHALT ROCKET said, you can't go wrong with his advice. Me I always go with my Rotary................
