When to re-apply wax

Just trying to do my homework, and I really haven't been able to answer the question by searching.

On my wife's Pathfinder, I applied two coats of Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant.

I then succumbed to the desire to test wax over the sealant.

Did the hood with DoDo Juice Purple Haze.
Did a door with Fuzion.

Decided I liked the look of the Fuzion better, and completed the vehicle with that.

It's been washed every week with my 13 year old Karcher 1400 PSI Powerwasher, Karcher's foam cannon, and CG Honeydew shampoo.

Only once did I even use a microfiber sponge on the body. Rest of the time it's been foam, rinse with PW, dry with Makita Blower. Touch up wet spots with Supreme 530 towel. No rain in Phoenix, it justs gets dusty. Since my wife is working down close by the Salt River bottom, there's a lot of junk in the air so the dust is sticky. And, if it gets left out in the driveway in the wrong spot, it gets misted with sap from one of our Pecan trees.

Vehicle still looks great.

I added a layer of Dodo Orange Crush to the hood last night after I washed it, and it definitely looks like it was just waxed.

So, my question is:
How do I know when it's time to re-apply wax over the DGPS? DGPS has a shine not unlike Carnauba wax. The look, the feel, or some other criteria?

Jim

Seems like that would depend very much on the climate, washing techniques, etc.

I'm just wondering if there's a way to actually tell when it's time to re-apply.

It really depends on your interest. If you want that just waxed look, you should do it more often.

So you basically do not wash it with a mitt but just foam, rinse, and air dry similar to touchless car wash?

Since it usually rains only a handful of times per year, a touchless wash easily gets everything off the paint.

When it does rain, it splashes up the months of road film, and then it takes some work to get the stuff off. But right now, it's just slightly sticky dust.

Baggie test after wash reveals a slick, smooth surface.

Why take the chance of scratching the paint, removing wax and sealant with a mitt?

For me, I rewax whenever the beading and sheeting starts to diminish. Many others on here will agree as well.

OK, let me try this again.

The WG DGPS will continue to bead water, even after the wax topper is gone.

I'm asking how I tell when it's time to refresh the topping.

Jim

when the beads of water lessen and/or the water isn't sheeting of as good(:

If your base stays fine. You can just top whenever you want. I know you're looking for a definitive answer but there is none. It's up to you, your car, weather etc, just have fun and apply as you like :dblthumb2:

If you can`t tell when you need to re wax your car just apply a wax every 3 months and in between use a good liquid spray wax every couple weeks and a liquid detailer when the car is just dusty. Both will keep the paint up until you re wax.

Thanks Chris.

No wonder I can't find a definitive answer searching the forums.

Sometime over the summer I'd like to apply another coat or two of sealant. I guess I'll just have to wash it with CG Red or Dawn, although recent posts suggest that you can't definitively remove even wax (particularly one like Fuzion that has polymers) just by washing.

Or, I'll just have to get the Flex out with some Menzerna SF4500 and remove everything and start over.

It sounds like putting the sealant on when there's still wax present isn't a good idea. Anything I can use to get the wax off without stripping the DGPS as well?
