Whether it's safe or not...

Removed almost, if not all traces of the month old Power Lock I applied to a car a little over a month ago. I foamed the car down with dawn, then two bucket washed it with dawn.

Definatly not safe, not only will it remove wax and sealants, it will also dry out the rubber and plastics on the car.

Really? I haven't noticed that, though I've only used it twice. Maybe this occurs after repetitive use? I see many detailers on here and other Forums recommending, and using Dawn to wash, remove and prep the paint surface.

I think i would clay it that should take care of the problem. And it only takes like 15 minutes to do it.But wait were did i read that??

I would only be doing this for the first and maybe last time on my car.

That forum is sometimes way too slow in responding. It's their product, so that's why I posted it there. I needed a quick answer, so I should have posted it here first.

May want to consider a dedicated paint cleaner, like PPCL, or Dodo Lime Prime. Much better than Dawn. Leave the dish detergent in the kitchen...

I don't have a paint cleaner, and I need to do this tomorrow. I figured 1 dawn wash wont hurt..

Maybe go up to Walmart or an auto parts store and grab something like Meguiars Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner or Mothers Pre Wax Cleaner, or even Meguiars SwirlX . All of those three are less than $10 and will remove your old wax without having to resort to the harsh effects of dish soap.

Why by hand?

either by hand with a foam applicator pad or machine will work fine.

Ahhh, ok. I've been brainwashed that the only paint cleaners that exist are PPCL, WG, P21S, not over the counter..haha

I could have swore I gave my wolfgang paint cleaner to a friend, but I found it in the corner of the cabinet in the garage. Should have enough to do the Vette! :buffing:

Leave the dishwashing soap in the kitchen. Try to stick with auto specific washes. Tried and tested on paints.

Well as you've said you were planning on only doing one wash with it to strip your LSP, you won't do too much damage (and I know that you know to use normal car shampoo to wash it normally so no need to advise you not to use it every week).

You'd definitely want to redress any exterior rubber and plastic after the wash, as any protection that was on them will be stripped and the natural oils in them will also be partially stripped.

Obviously a paint cleanser is a far superior choice and since you've found your WG paint cleanser, may as well use that as it will have no ill effects, and will better prepare your surface for your LSP than a dawn wash would.

I dont personally believe that Dawn will remove all traces of a sealant that is properly cured. Sure it might sheet water versus bead, but is it really gone ???

Dawn came into play with car care by Zaino, and suggested long before they offered an AIO product. It was initially suggested to remove traces of the oils from waxes which were most commonly used back then. Obviously time has changed and abrasive polishes, paint cleaners, and AIO's are available and likely best to use.

Exactly, something about using a product that dries your hands out like crazy will not have positive consequences on a car.

Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner is very good and stupidly easy to use, it will clean the paint of 99% of the embedded dirt and LSP in the pores of the paint and won't require a substantial time committment either.

Thanks everyone! You talked me into doing the right thing, no dawn! :xyxthumbs:

Good choice! I REALLY like CG Citrus Wash and Clear. It has awesome cleaning power, leaving the paint feeling nice and smooth. Although the soap does feel a little, uh, aggressive. It's nothing that adding a cap-full of ONR can't fix.

My friend is on his way over to wash his car right now, he described his Mustang as "It's gonna need to be washed twice" LOL. I said my usual "I have a product for that". :D
