Which all-in-1 package?

I am looking to get a complete detailing package including a buffer. My budget is about $225 for everything. My cars are 3 years old and not that bad but I want to be able to keep them up and assist a few friends keep theirs up (read guinea pigs) :xyxthumbs:

Any suggestions are appreciated

The two kits below are great starter kits that include everything you'll need to gain both knowledge and experience. Both include dual action polishers and come with product sufficient enough to make the average car glow.

thanks for the suggestions. DO I need to focus on any specific one because they both appear to have different speeds?
 
Also check out the Griot's kits for under $200.

The problem with the kits is they don't have enough pads. Most people will also recommend a 5" backing plate and 5.5" pads.
 
Ceramiclear kit is a bit more but worth every penny.

Starting on this journey can be a bit daunting. Try not to get so caught up in all the numbers at this point. Both of the kits I pointed out are designed for detailing and these machines have withstood the test of time.

Any one of the machines sold here will provide the average user with years of service and satisfaction. Once you become more proficient you'll probably add at least one additional machine and experiment with many different products.

Pick any one of these and you'll have no regrets.

good info, think I might be over thinking this one. I do have another question though

Say I get the Porter, what peripherals do I need to go with it? 6" back plate? Pack of associated pads to go with it?

Get the PC with a 5" backing plate and 5/5" foam buffing pads and with the right chemicals and technique you can tackle just about anything that comes you're way.

Personally speaking, I changed my backing plate to accommodate the 5 1/2" pads. I find these made a world of difference in both performance and time.

Here's the plate I used.

lake country 5 inch backing plate, 5 inch backin plate, 5 inch hook and loop backing plate

Here are the pads I use with it.

Lake Country 5 1/2 x 7/8 inch Beveled Edge Foam Pads, buffing pads, Lake Country curved edge pads, polishing pads

If you decide to place an order for a kit, give the folks at Autogeek a call and make the switch at the time of purchase.

My first order was just over $300, but took advantage of a 20% off sale with free shipping. AG also tossed a bottle of the DP waterless wash and a free Pinnacle sample. I think my total after the discount, including FL sales tax was just under $290. I should have ordered more pads at the time. After pricing the packages, I found it to be a better deal overall to get the polisher by itself, then get a six pack of pads, the backing plate, the polishes and sealant, and the pad cleaner separately. I could have saved a few bucks more if I bought over-the-counter polishes and sealant/wax, but what's the fun in that?

Would this purchase be comparable?

Porter Cable 7424 & Foam Pad Kit - Car Buffer
 
Personally, I would stick with Meguiars Ultimate Compound and Meguiars Swirlx. Great products at even better pricing.

Grab a couple pads and IMHO you don't need expensive microfiber. I have yet to have a microfiber from Wal-Mart marr the paint.
