Which camera is the better?

Nikon D3100

Canon EOS Digital Rebel T3

I'm not a photographer so I'm not familiar enough with those models to give an opinion, but the Nikon vs Canon debate is kinda like Chevy vs Ford, it mostly comes down to personal preference. The important thing to remember is that once you pick a brand you're pretty much stuck with it when it comes time to get a new one unless you want to get all new lenses too. Often times it's the lens that makes the difference, and they can end up costing a lot more than the body. If you have friends with a DSLR, see what brands they have as it would make sharing lenses easy.
 
I personally prefer Canons, and I know more people who shoot with Canon than Nikon.

But I think you'll be happy with either path you take.
 
Definitely a Mustang vs. Camaro type debate. Both are good brands and good cameras.

I'll echo the sentiment that the most important part is the lens. Use a prime (non-zoom) lens with a speed of f/1.4 or f/1.8 (lower is better) and you'll get incredible pictures with almost any camera body.

I would suggest a Canon T2i so you get nice quality product & the option to record great 1080p video.

Canon also has amazing refurbished products, my $200.00 HF30 camcorder came in basically new besides the box being different, so also think about that if you want to save some money.
 
Look at the Canon T3i...it has a few more features than the T3. You will love the adjustable LCD screen. The T3 is certainly an excellent camera in its own right...just a matter of features.

In the end, the lens makes the difference. Canon and Nikon are both wonderful cameras and camera systems.

Very much a matter of preference. A friend got me started on Canon Rebels way back. I now sport a T3i but won't bother trying to convince on way or another.

FYI, one particularly helpful site that does a great job reviewing various models is dpreview.com.
 
I used canon 500D don't know about the rebel type? the same type but different name, maybe in south east asia call XXXD series. I love canon because their colors are smoother than nikon imo, nikon what u see is what u get type, maybe u should edit the picture again whit photoshop or any other program editor.

Just purchased the Canon T3 kit and I love it. Still need to learn all of its functions and whatnot, but I have taken some fantastic photos with it thus far.
 
I still use my Canon Rebel 350D. 8mp, good in low light up to 800 ISO. It has 1600 ISO but I rarely use it as it's a bit grainy if you pixel peep. I have the 50mm prime 1.8 like someone mentioned up above. The only thing to keep in mind is at 1.8 aperture the field in focus will be very very narrow. This means whatever you focus on will be sharp but everything just a hair closer or further away from you will be way out of focus and blurry. This can be both good and bad depending on what you want to accomplish. For pics of cars you usually want a wider range in focus so stop it down to 4 or 8, or maybe even higher aperture. The higher the aperture the less light gets in so you will need bright sun, flash or a slower shutter speed.

As for Canon vs. Ford, I'm a Canon and Chevy man myself and look down at the unwashed masses sporting Nikons or Fords. Don't even get me started on Toy yodas.

Seriously any camera today is so much better than cameras in the past that the choice is moot. Your skill using it will make a bigger difference than the brand name. That goes for cars too!
 
I have a kodak easyshare m580 14mp and got it on ebay it was also a refurbished one. was 500. new but I only payed 125.00 take a look at my pics and see what you think. ps I always shoot at the bigest I can then down size later . That way when I use photobucket I can use them big an look there best.
 
Lots of good advice here. As has already been said, when you buy a camera with interchangeable lenses, you are buying into a system(lenses, flashes, teleconverters, etc). Many lenses are much more expensive then camera bodies. You accumulate lenses over time as you want more flexability in what you can photograph. Camera bodies are usually replaced after a few years. I shoot Canon. I love the color produced by Canon digital cameras. I suggest you spend some time looking at the camera reviews at:

I'm a nikon person, but I think canon are more user friendly. I asked a lot of people why they chose nikon over canon and they said it shoots better in low light...
 
Check out the Nikon D5100. The D5100 is newer version of D3100 and replaces the D300 at a fraction of the price. It is comparably priced with your other choices and a year newer.
