Good morning all,
Got a PC 7424 kit with LC 6.5" pads recently from another site and had an issue with the 6" bpl wobbling. They sent another one and it was only slightly better. Not a big deal on this machine as the bpl rotates fairly slow. I noticed that AG supplies a 5" bpl with their kits so I ordered the 5" HD bpl from them. (It spins "true"). Using the machine for the first time there seemed to be an excessive amount of vibration with the 6" bpl and 6.5" LC pads, especially at speeds above 4. Fortunately I also ordered the 6" cw and installed it with the 5" bpl and a pad. Spinning free there seems to be much less vibration than before. (I tried various combinations and this seems to be the smoothest).

So, what combination of bpl/cw/pad size is everybody else using ?

Cheers,

Bruce

Counterweights:
There are two different counter-weights, which are clearly marked to indicate use with either the 5-inch, or 6-inch backing pad. Therefore with a 6-inch backing pad for polishing you should use the 6-inch, 0.140 oz. counterweight (PN 699933) (I also feel this counter weight cuts down on vibration whatever size pad is utilized) The vibrations that are generated at higher speeds when using a 5-inch weight and a 6-inch pad are unacceptable for most people the counterweights are sizes for sanding paper not a foam pad, so most people just use the 6-inch counter weight

The only exception is when using the 6-inch foam-polishing pad (PN 54745) supplied with the machine. Due to its lightweight and the small-diameter backing pad used (included with pad), it can be used with either the 5-inch pad or the 6-inch pad counterweight.

Placebo I say. The PC was designed with the idea that a BP and a sheet of paper would be used and not a much heavier pad with wet product.

Thanks for the replies,
After doing some Googling on this its seems that this issue has been beat to death for a long time ! (dumb Newbie !) General consensus is to go with 6" cw w/ 6" bpl and 5" cw w/ 5" bpl.
I'm kind of anal about this stuff and I can state that at least with my PC and 6.5" LC pads that the 6" cw is definitely smoother even with the AG 5" bpl. I'm going to try it again this weekend on the hood of my 330i. I'm also thinking of slowly adding weight to the 5" cw with "lead tape" (it's used for changing the swingweight of golf clubs, one of my other passions along with woodworking) to see if I can fine tune it. I just like things to work like they are supposed to ! Thats why the wobbling bpl annoyed me so much.
I'll be using the LC orange pad with Menzerna IP followed up with FP/white pad.

Cheers,

Bruce
