Hey everyone, I'm looking into asking for a flex polisher for Christmas. I have done my research, and it looks like hands down this is the best polisher, even though it is a lot more expensive than the PC or the Megs polishers. So, if money was no object, which Flex 3401 kit would you buy from autogeek's website?

1. XMT, 2. Menzerna, 3. Wolfgang, 4. Pinnacle, 5. Megs

This would be for a newbie who has never used a polisher before (have done all my work by hand).

Menzerna or wolfgang. Try the 6 inch kompressor pads, I hear they are good.

Menzerna is the best. I started with Menzerna and a 3401 as my first polisher combo. I like to have Poorboys on hand as well, but nothing compares to the Menzerna line. Great choice of polisher also. I love my 3401!

What are you going to do if you need smaller pads to polish smaller areas?

Personally, I didn't buy a kit when I ordered my Flex.

I bought a Flex, a couple Hydro Tech Cyan Pads, a couple Hydro Tech Tangerine Pads, Menzerna SIP, and Menzerna Power Finish. I already had Menzerna Super Finish so I didn't need a finishing polish. In your case, you should just buy some Power Finish and Super Finish...or SIP and Super Finish.

Oh how I wish the menzerna wasn't so expensive! but if it works the best...well, it's worth it!

The Wolfgang Flex XC3401 Concours Polishing Kit & the Menzerna Flex XC3401 Ceramic Show Car Kit are awesome kits you can't go wrong either way you choose. The Wolfgang kit includes the Deep Gloss Paint Sealant and the Menzerna kit does not include a Wax or Sealant but it does include the Flex Polisher Bag.

Thanks guys. I'm leaning more towards the Wolfgang due to cost issues, so I hope this product will be a good choice and work out for me just as well as Menz. But you know, it just depends on how much Christmas money I get......LOL

Well the Wolfgang polishes are made by Menzerna, so you really can't go wrong there. :xyxthumbs:

I have been using Poorboys products for over a year now, they work very nicely. I had to figure out pad selection with the stuff as the SSR line is actually pretty fine. SSR 2.5 has a medium cut so on heavily damaged finishes I use a cutting pad first or else it takes too long. The Polish with sealant is my favorite (pad dependant) and does some great correction. I have nothing but good to say about the entire PB line of products.

Sounds like you've already made up your mind, but I'll throw in a vote for the Meguiar's package. I love my Flex/3401 w/all the Meguiar's products.

i just got my wolfgang kit with my flex 3401 i love them. you can't go wrong with the high end product. you get what you paid for. remember that.

What are you mostly working on?

Your own cars?
Customer's cars?
Paint in good shape?
Paint in bad shape?

The Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover is a very nice SMR and it has a long play time and easy wipe-off, 2 things that are important if you're new to machine polishing. It will tackle most swirls and scratches that the average person is going to try to tackle.

After you get your kit, check out this thread,

Thanks Mike. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. I will be using the kit on my own cars, and some friends cars, with the hopes of getting some customers in the future...The paint is in pretty good condition, but there are swirls and holograms in the paint, as well as some scuffs here and there, but not any deep scratches. I always practice on my own car before I do anyone else's. I will check out the thread before I start any work on the cars.

The WG TSR 3.0 is in my opinion a very good light to medium SMR with the bonus features of long play time and easy wipe-off, the easy wipe-off is more appreciated at the end of the day than most people that don't buff out cars will ever understand. :D

If you come across any areas that aren't buffing out well, then shrink the size of your work area down a little and spend a little more time working the product, maybe use two applications and be sure to clean your pad before applying fresh product.

With a Flex 3401 the easiest way to clean residue off the face of the pad besides a pad washer is with a pad cleaning brush like this,

Or a medium to hard bristle toothbrush will work. Don't clean the pad with the machine turned on, just flip the polisher over and brush off the residue with the brush. It's important to work clean and adding fresh product to spent product dilutes the fresh product.

I always practice on my own car before I do anyone else's. I will check out the thread before I start any work on the cars.

Good plan.

+1 on The Edge Foam Pad Conditioning Brush.

I have tried alternative brushes, but there is some magic to The Edge Brush. I always get my pads 100% clean with the XMT Pad Cleaner and some agitation with this brush whereas other brushes leave some residue in the center of the pad.

It is worth the extra $13 or whatever for that brush.

You could always opt for the less expensive kit that just includes the bag, 3401, conditioner, cleaner and then purchase whatever products you want ala carte
