Just wondered if anyone knows which is the least aggressive on clear coat?

I previously used Meguaires Clay kit. Very happy with it except the high price.

I was told Bilt Hamber was just as good
But does it cause more marring or is it more agressive , naturally I dont want that.

If its just as paint friendly ... do you use water or as some reccommend use weak car wash solution? As a lubricant.

Sonus is the finest that I've used. That said, most on the forum will not clay unless they plan to follow up with a polishing step.

Thanks , have you tried Bilt Hamber Soft or Megaiures?

Hard for us in the USA to get Bilt Hamber. Wouldn't mind trying it out, though

Meguiar's.....ummmm. I think so. Or maybe Mother's. It was one of those kits with the detail spray, clay, and towel.

Mostly, though, I use AutoScrub mitt. For clay bars, i'll either use the Sonus for fine grade, or Poorboy's World for medium duty.

IMO:

1)
(a.) Both the clay in Meguiar’s Claying Kit,
and Bilt Hamber’s (BH) Smooth clay have
very similar levels of aggressiveness.
(b.) Disclaimer:
My aspect of tactile perceptibility
may not be as tangible as yours.

2)
(a.) If you prefer to use tap water as
the clay lube: Go with BH’s Smooth.
(b.) Otherwise: Meguiar’s Claying Kit

Even if they say it's okay with water as claylube for Bilt Hamber soft clay. I use claylube to be safe. But many uses water and gets great results. I have BH medium clay and it works great. If you have not clayed your car for a long time I would go with medium or regualar. The difference with a quality clay and the aggressiveness is depending on the amount of contaminants you have embedded in your paint. The less strokes is needed when you have alot of contaminants if you use a aggressive clay. If you go with the BH clay you wont be disappointed with it. If you go with Meguiars you would go up to the proffessional aggressive or mild clay to compare it to BH. 3M clay is also a great one. And if you get the Dodo Juice Born Slippy Clay Lubricant Concentrate as the claylube you will be able to have a great effective claying. The Sonüs Ultra Fine clay is more to clay on paints that has little contaminants and spot clay and still be able to have your LSP on the paint afterwards. If you have alot of contaminants you will have to go over the area you clay many times with the Sonüs clay before you get that spot smooth. I have the Sonüs clay too. And save it to when I would need it.

The clay alternatives is quite good now days. In the beginning they where very aggressive. Just remember to break it in with starting with claying the glass on your car. If you skip that step you will have to take out the polisher.

When you said “If you go with Meguiars you would go up to the proffessional aggressive or mild clay to compare it to BH.“ are you saying the Bilt Hamber “Soft” clay is more agressive than the Meguairs Claybar kit clay ( very white bar) ?

No but it's different kind of clay material. And it's difference in effectiveness from different clay materials. Sure Meguiars clay kit will work. But you will have to do more strokes over a contaminant spot than with a BH clay.

Thanks, good to know BHs not more agressive.
I like the fact that Meguairs says their clay is non abraisive and it does leave the paint glassy, shiny :)
.
Would you say its easier if I used that Detailers spray (that came with the Meguaies clay) when I use the Bilt Hamber Soft?
Some reccomend using some diluted car shampoo, have you tried that with BH?

You can use ANYTHING that is slick. We use car soap from a soap bucket using a wash mitt to keep the surface liberally lubed. That's the key, whatever you use, keep is well lubricated. We rinse afterwards.
