Hello all Happy Holidays!! I've decided on a PC and would like to buy it as a kit which kit works for a newbee I have 3 vehicles 2 are 1 yr old and also a 6 yr old truck!! Mostly want this to help keep the new rigs in shape without destroying my arms I like clean but without the muscle!!????

I put together my own kit so I could get the 5.5" low profile pads that are preferred for the PC. I also use 4" pads frequently. I don't know what comes in a "kit" these days but don't go for the 6.5" pads.

Go with the griots, it has more power and I think lifetime warranty

I would also go with the 5.5-in pads. You can contact Nick and see if he can customize something for you. The pad cleaner/conditioner are not must haves. You do need to have at least 3 to 4 pads for each step since clean pads work better.

Thanks for all the info so far....Does more power really matter with a DA??????

Yes. The Griots will be a significant upgrade over the Porter Cable. I think you will you will get better results faster. The Rupes is a bit more refined at a much higher price. The Flex offers forced rotation (consistent performance).

You will appreciate the power of the Griots once you get into this. It can handle anything you can throw at it with the right pad and polish. And, it does have a lifetime warranty along with Griots excellent customer service. Even though it can handle 6.5" pads equip it with a 5 " backing plate and use 5.5" pads for the most effective combination plus everytime you buy a 5 or 6 pack of pads you save money.

So what do you recommend for wax and cleaner on newer vehicles less than a year old?? Ok so if order the Griots I need to buy the 5" backing pad to go it??

I am a first time buyer of detailing items for AG. I used auto parts store items before. I purchased the Griots, along with 5.5" Hydro Tech pads and 5" backing plate. While I have not used other machines offered here on AG, I can tell you that I like the Griots very much. Lots of power. It is a highly recommended machine.

Yes a 5" backing plate would need to be ordered or as stated before call AG and they may be able to work something out for you.

Is the Griot's unit that much better than the PC? The PC allows you to change the backing plate size to use different diameter pads. With the Griots, looks like you need to buy two units?

Yes, I rather have the Griots. It has more power, better warranty, vibrates less and is more comfortable. Also the backing plates are interchangeable just like the PC. I picked it up for $90 on bf for glass polishing, hard to reach areas and maybe brush attachment for carpet. Glad I have it:xyxthumbs:

What type of paint correction are you planning on doing? Are these daily drivers (DD) that you will primarily be doing a 1 step with or are these garage queens worthy of a 3 step correction? If you plan to do 3 step, flex is a great way to go...if 1 step with an AIO, any of the DAs sold here will give you good results. As for which products...you may as well ask which soda is our favorite. All of the products sold on AGO are great. I primarily use BF and Pinnacle, but a lot of other guys love WG, CG, PB.......If you are looking for an easy AIO, Pinnacle XMT 360 is about as easy as it gets.

I'm Looking to do a three step... I drive the car maybe once a week and want a showroom shine. I'm new to the power tool use, as I have always detailed by hand. I do have other cars and a large boat I would use it on... I'm just concerned about messing up my paint. Guess I could always practice on my wife's car ;o)

That's how I started a few years back. Started on the wife's car and moved up from there. Even though I was new with a machine, I went for the Flex and found it very easy to use. I was afraid of doing damage as well, but quickly found that I wasn't doing enough to correct let alone do damage. I'm sure you've done your homework, read a bunch of stuff, watched videos, etc...So you know to do a test spot and to go with the least aggressive approach and move up from there to get the desired results. You'll be fine.

I'm assuming you will be working on the mustang for the 3 step, I'd use Pinnacle on that. It's made for red, black, and yellow and you will get great results.

Do you use the Flex PE14 or the L3403?
I have a list of Pinnacle products and Lake Country Pads all picked out. Going to clay, remove swirls, polish, seal with Wolfgang sealer and finish with Pinnacle Souveran paste wax.

I use the 3401, a rotary is not where someone new to detailing should start, stick to the DAs.

I've seen a ton of info on removing swirl marks from clear coat. What do you guys do to remove swirls from the painted plastic bumper covers and brake light lens?
