Which product to by Meguiars, Menzerna or Duragloss?

I have a patriot blue 2005 Dodge Ram that has quite a few swirls. I would post some photos but it's rather dirty right now. Should I get M105/M205 or some menzerna products? I've also thought about duragloss but I'm not sure if they have anything strong enough to remove my defects. Let me know what you think.
 
can't go wrong with m105/m205 however menzerna has great polishes as well

Pics would help. All of the brands you listed make top quality products. M105/M205 is a killer combo that will work great on almost any paint finish. I also have an '05 Ram (graphite) and can tell you that M205 finishes down perfectly on this paint system.
 
If you want to spend the money I would try some of each. Totally depends on your paint and technique. I use products from all three maufacturers.
 
If your looking to save some coin Meguiar's twins is hard to beat. Now if you have a bit extra to spend pick up some of the new Menzerna FG400 as well as SF4000 or SF4500.

+1 on the 105/205 combo as it's darned hard to beat.

OTOH, if you are not used to working with 105, and/or you don't have PLENTY of pads, you might want to look at Megs Ultimate Compound. The cut is almost as good but the workablity, added polishing oils and time that it'll work before having to either clean or change pads is HUGE compared to 105. Plus UC just doesn't clump up like 105 does. (well it doesn't actually clump up itself, but the paint it removes tends to make it look like it's clumping up sometimes) Regardless, M105 is one of the best products out there for a lot of different uses, but the level of cut isn't needed for most situations. Once you get a handle on the 105 however it can be used with softer and softer pads to get to darned near LSP stage. ;)

As for 205, it'll work all day and finishes out really well. Which tells a bit as to how well it's sibling, Ultimate Polish will work out. For added flexibility the UC/UP products are great to have in your arsenal.
 
I've read that M105/M205 dust a lot more than other products and they aren't the easiest to use? I'm new to this and will be using a PC 7424XP along with some white, orange and blue 5.5" pads. Thanks for all of the advice.

The Wolfgang twins are extremly easy to use and achieve outstanding results for beginners and seasoned users alike.
 
I fell for the m105/m205 trap as a beginner. I do not recommend them unless you have all day to perfect the "technique" needed to use them properly. Go with the Wolfgang twins, its reportedly Menzerna in smaller bottles. Better off taking the money you save and buying multiple type of pads, flat, CCS, hydrotech to see which one you like.
 
You can also try Megs Ultimate Compound and Megs Ulitimate Polish instead of 105/205. They are much easier to use and don't dust as much.

I like Megs D300 on a MF pad too, then follow that up with some Menzerna SF4000 or SF4500, then chose your favorite topper.

+1000 !!!!!

The reason you see 105 mentioned so much is because of all the different situations a professional detailer can find himself in. That doesn't mean that hobbyists need that much cut. :dunno:

The UC / UP duo works on everything I've ever tried it with. It'll work when it's hot, when it's cold and everywhere in between. Now take 205 however and I cannot imagine being without it! :) It works very well, on many different paints and with so many different pads it's insane.

M205 does NOT have dusting problems in fact one of the easiest polishes to work with.........m105 does untill you perfect your technique.

People seem to think if you want to use 105 you have to use 205 as follow up. very much untrue.You can use 205 on its own combo'd with the right pad and achieve some awsome results.And you can use brand x if it works for the results your looking for.

Here is what I keep on my shelf as far as compounds and polishes goes....

Megs 105,205,D300,ultimate compound and polish,D151

Optimum CompoundII,polishII,finish polish

mothers pro series compound/polishes

Menz sf4500

I work with MF pads 95% of the time.....megs,Optimum,LC,
Lc hydrotechs are my foam pad of choice and
Purple foamed wool pads.

And thats it.

I can accomplish just about anything with a combo of anything listed above mix and match.

Everything is paint dependant...thus the most uttered words around "THE TEST SPOT"
there is no one compound or polish that will do everything all the time,period.

Dad07 is SPOT on. Could of not said it better myself. People that think that 205 dusts clearly dont know what their doing.

I think the most important pieces of information above are "if you don't know what you are doing". Newbies generally do not, and may not have the time to spend countless hours perfecting technique. I think if that information is passed onto people here in the 101 section it would be helpful To them, it sure would have helped me versus the "just get m105/m205" countless replies we always see.

A better option would be the Megs UC/UP or Wolfgang twins/Menzerna options IMHO for someone just starting out, or even an AIO that wipes off EASILY versus M105 which really isn't needed for a beginner, and quite frankly, could be harmful to your paint if not used properly since its SMAT and doesn't breakdown (unlikely with a DA but you never know what someone will do out there).
 
In my opinion 105 is the hardest product to work with I ever encountered .. its simply not my cup of tea.

Ultimate compound is my favorite in Megs range, however German Menzerna is top notch company (like Merc, Flex, Audi and the like).

Agree. Would not recommend M105 to inexperienced users.
