This applies to washing with the Garry Dean Method, not two bucket method of rinseless as I use a grout sponge for that.

Do any of you use a Gold Plush Jr type towel (only one side plush)?

Do any of you use a towel larger than 16x16?

For standard midsize sedan how many towels (if you use a size other than 16x16, what size towel are you using) for washing?

For drying, what towel type (waffle weave or standard plush), what sizes and how many do you use to dry the car?

I like either the dual plush 600 gsm, which I think are called chinchillas here (but they are available from other sources also) or the MM 800's, which are excellent. I have a mid size sedan and it takes about 8-10 towels to one bucket wash.

I'm not a huge RWer, though I predict I'll be busier this winter and will resort to it more often. I use the dual-pile purple super plushes for both washing and drying, 16x16. I'm slowly converting my entire collection of buffing and polishing cloths to 16x16 after trying to not curse at larger sizes. The only time a larger towel is useful to me is blot-drying, when the big, foam-filled Guzzler Supreme drying towels go to town soaking it all up.

Not that this thread hasn't been discussed again and again but what the heck.....

Yes!

MFT, 360GSM... about 18 of them. We'll do 6~8 in black 10~12 in gold.

Although.... the MFT 530GSM is a much tougher, more durable towel, and IMO it's softer than the Cobra 530. Plus it makes a GREAT drying towel.:dblthumb2:

Can you use a 600 or 700 GSM unit?

Sure, but be forewarned that the extra weight isn't going to help you when doing rinseless. Not to mention they just bog down and feel like big wet CATS.

Most importantly is to start at the top and work down. Then just ever so lightly hold two corners and lightly pull the towel across the panel (preferably in only one direction). If you need to repeat, turn the towel around and reverse direction. (Then again I'm incredibly OCD about such things.) :D

As for 2-colors... well black for the bottom of course. :props:

I might add, that I REALLY don't like doing rinseless as any type of wash for anything other than just clearing dust. After all, that's why they make foam cannons..... RIGHT? :buffing:

Wait. You use 16-18 on a single car? Yeah, that is OCD. You'll be using more water to wash 18 towels than you save over a 2BM wash!

I can understand this since they're one sided towels.

I have migrated to using 100% Korean 360 weight Waffle Weave exclusively for rinseless....either Rag Company or Microfiber Madness.

This may be heresy in these circles, but I don't see the value in using my best towels for rinseless use. You're starting out with a wet towel, soaked in a solution with the properties to loosen and encapsulate dirt particles. I'd rather spend more on my drying towels. I divide my towels in three categories: premium, mid-grade and utility. Normally, I'll reach for the mid-grades when doing a rinseless wash, including a relatively new Costco Kirkland. My family fleet is mostly dark colors and I've never seen a swirl or scratch issue that I can attribute to inadequate rinseless wash technique.
When it comes to waterless washes or QD use, where you're starting with a dry towel, only the premiums come out.

I use meguiars supreme shine towels to wash and my guzzlers to dry

Bill, I've done that as well. The yellow Kirklands work just fine for RWing daily drivers. However, I do a 2BM ONR which keeps the towel clean. I still dry with a heavier/denser plush. On softer paints on nicer cars, though, I use the MM Incrediwhatever to drench the paint.

Using a denser towel has diminishing returns in benefits especially with different uses, correct? For example a MFT/Cobra 360 vs 530 would might not provide the same margin of benefit with rinseless as it would waterless. For rinseless, after a while heavier towels (700+?) become a waste of solution by absobing too much. Also the use of a "mid-grade" towel makes sense for rinseless because the towel is soaking in the solution. What seems most important is using something with enough pile to trap the dirt which brings me back the beginning of this post. If two towels with the same length of pile have different GSMs making them more dense, does it matter between the two especially when using the Gary Dean method?

this is no help without info on the towels?

Sorry, top is stocktowels medium ultra plush, my go to for compound removal as well. Second is Korean edgeless 470, threragco or microfibertech, my go to for sealant and coating removal. I use both/either for rinseless and waterless depending on how dirty and what part of the car.

I use Adams double soft towels I believe they are 1100 gsm and have a long nap. they are also white which shows dirt easily which is a must have IMO.

I think 350-650 is an ideal density for RWes. IMVHO.
