ok, so which steps can i skip and be fine.

compound or polish, which one should i go with?

sealant or wax, which one should i go with?

i dont think im going to clay the car.

also i would like to know if i need to do anything before the next time i wash the car, like any product to remove the old finish. or can i just wash over the previous finishes?

whats common name for this product if i have to?

final, the car will be 13 years old this xmas so its an old paint job on most of the car. (new hood and side panel) is there anything i should be aware of?

13 year old red car.....I would wash, then compund, then polish, then seal or wax. if you want "show car" quality finish, you need to compound first then polish. if you just want more gloss, light haze/oxidation/swirl/scratch removal then you can just polish and wax. also, what kind of machine or polisher are you using? nothing you should be aware of really, unless you are using a rotary, then you will need to be extra careful. and after all of this....just wash the car as usual. nothing special about future washes (just be sure not to use anything that will damage the paint again of course)

Compound or polish, do a test spot with polish and see if that's enough. If it is, then all you need is polish. Sealant would be my second choice, wax would be third. First would be a paint coating.

Only thing you need to do is make sure the new paint is cured.

well, if you can get a whole DA polisher outfit at a store locally including pads of course, then go that route. i dont know of any stores that sell all that together, but i dont live where you live. or you could go to like auto zone and buy a random orbit buffer, i suggest a 6 inch, and use that with a good store bought polish like the meguiars cleaner wax or something similar, then follow up with a simple wax. i know everybody else on here (me too) will tell you just to order something from this site and get all the right stuff you need to do the job right, but if tomorrow is your day, you can get away with auto zone stuff and make it look a whole lot better. depends on your schedule and budget. sound crazy but I bought a 6 inch buffer at walmart about 15 years ago , some terrible generic brand, and it works incredibly well still to this day. have probably done 5,000 vehicles with it, no kidding. not gonna remove anything heavy with it but it will apply light polishes and waxes very well and its quick and easy and cheap. ($20). depends on you....

oh and by cured he means if you have had fresh paint on any part of the car in the past 30-45 days, you will want to wait at least that long for the paint to cure (completely dry and harden from the inside out) in other words.dont try to polish or wax fresh paint.

o man i heard for me to stick with the DA since im a newbie...whats ur suggestion? and im thinking of just ordering it from here i guess it doesnt have to be tomrw. specially if i want to spend my money and not think about it later and regret it.

and no the parts were painted about 2 months ago :D i knew that part ^

but i did try applying some wax today by hand and it went on fairly easy....but after it got dark, moisture started building up over it!!! it looked horrible! how can i remove the old wax?!?! i think it happened because i didnt wipe off the car after waxing it. but i didnt just smear on the car i actually put some pressure and rubbed it in circular motions....

so is it normal for it to happen, and what should i know between these steps so nothing like this happens again? :(

P.S- 5,000 freaking cars?! congrats dude! $$$

The Porter Cable DA would be a good choice. Make sure you get a backing plate and pads with it.

For a sealant there are lots of good choices.

GTechniq C1.5
Ultima Paint Guard Plus
Optimum Opti Seal
Dodo Juice Supernatural Acrylic Spray

They are all around $20 from here at AG.

no if you can order the DA off this site, thats what you want to do. I would recommend the Griots polishing kit for $149 stock number is GR-10750-MG

if the parts were painted 2 months ago living in florida you are fine with that.

far as the dried wax......you should be able to remove it when you wash the car. just scrub a little harder with the mitt in those areas. should come right off.

and, yes, I have a car lot that is also a detail shop and I did detailing at my house for years before opening my shop so thats how this buffer has done that many cars. and yes.....there is good money in auto sales and decent money in detailing.

good luck with all this.

If you don't clay it, you'll be sorry. I couldnt see the sense of claying either. Was I ever surprised. Smoooooooth.
It doesn't take long to do it.
Let us know how it works out.
