I was detailing the vette this morning and had an idea. I stood behind the vette and noticed that it just looked to plain.

I was thing how can I make it standout better. Here is what I came up with. Went to Lowes and bought some Flat black paint. As you can see in the picture above the lower part has an outlined area. So I was thinking that flat black would help to make the chrome tip pipes and the shiny red paint pop out.

What do you think, did it make the back end POP?

It really does give a nice contrast but I'm hoping that is Photoshop job and you didn't really paint a vette with spray paint from Lowe's. I think I will leave my vette like it is but I can Photoshop it any color you like.

Definitely makes it look more interesting than before. I like it!

That makes more sense. You obviously know what you are doing. I just don't have the nerve to try something that radical. But, it does create a neat appearance.

What is plastic sheet? Link? Sorry never heard of it

Plastic sheet with sticky on back side. Like what is used for making panels on side of trucks and vans for business.

Hope that helps.

in your situation it didnt turn out so bad but, usually when a man looks at a car and thinks "too plain" bad things happen....

also, it doesnt look bad but it almost looks black plasticky, consider that the entry cadillac deville had black plastic around the bottom, the upscale dts had it painted. same with the seville and sts, same with avalanche and ext.

matching paint to me usually gives a higher end look but thats just me.

Sorry to say this sir, but you cant say "paint is paint as long as you know how to shoot it". You cant tell me that the rattle can paint you bought is comparable to some PPG Flat black paint.

I think it looks great. Nice idea painting the sheeting also!

I like the idea. My only qualm with the C5 Corvette is that the rear end seems a bit large ( definitely toned down in the C6) and optically one needs to break it up. Many C5 owners( like you did) change the exhaust tips (with matching chrome Corvette plate in the center) to add some brightwork. By adding the flat black just over that area will optically shrink the size of the rear.

definitely looks nice. however i think you shouldve gotten automotive spray paint instead of home paint at lowes, like duplicolor. if it holds up i guess ya did something right. either way, looks good.

A lot of people have been using a product called Plasti-Dip on thier cars. I believe it is removable. Look up some info on it.

:iagree:

@ Driwash: Definite improvement, Tom!!!

Painting "plastic sheet with sticky on the back side": American ingenuity at work. :)

Black gel-coat on my C6's back-up lenses for a similar effect:

Nice! I've been telling my buddy to do this with his Z06 since he bought it last year.
