This customer has become a rather steady supplier of work for me and he always has the vehicles washed and placed in the garage ready for me to come do the paint work. A rather perfect situation as the garage is air conditioned in the summer, heated in the winter and there is plenty of roll around space in which to work as well as tables to set up and organize my gear.

This particular truck was chock full of iron particles so it first received an ONR wipedown then an Iron-X treatment. Sorry no bleeding pictures.

After Iron-X it was rinsed and then clayed from top to bottom followed by a light swirl removal using an orange 6.5" LC flat pad on my Flex 3401 with M-205, a quick wipedown with OPC 20:1 mixture then treated to a generous coating of Opti-Coat 2.0

I say "generous coating" because I threw it in for free as a customer appreciation deal.

Here is a photo of the rub through damage done from having the fender flares on the truck. The customer already had the flares removed when I showed up to work on the truck.

The customer held the fender flares as I applied the coat of Opti-Coat 2.0 to them, here they are curing on the bed cover.

I had roughly 8 hours invested in this job. Polishing from a ladder and reaching high to polish above and around the doors was tough as on Saturday I did a 12 hour detail on a beat to hell 1995 Volvo station wagon that is typically used as a truck. While the transformation on the Volvo wagon would have made for some real nice before and after photos I didn't have my camera with me.

About a year and a half ago I donated a $300 valued detail voucher to an inner city Latino scholarship program to be auctioned off in a fund raiser silent auction. Fast forward to this Saturday The 12 hour Volvo detail made me feel very purposeful and grateful, that is until the lucky highest bidder told me that he got the detail voucher for $45. Oh well, I am just a small cog in the machine of life in this world. I still feel good for doing it and every dollar counts.

I am quite sore today after a 45 hour work week and 20 hours of detailing this weekend. I am glad I am working 4-10 hour days because that gives me today off to rest up a bit. Maybe "my girl Jack" and I can work on something like this today.

BIG trucks are allot of work but it came out great. No wonder you and Jack were exhausted! :props:

also quite interested in the OPC at 20:1 to wipe off polishing oils. At that dilution, is it ok not to rinse?

I always thought opc had to be rinsed off well, especially when used on paint.
 
Thanks guys, It was a big job but went rather smoothly due to the owner being so helpful in having it prepared for me to do my work.

The technique I use is to spray the OPC directly on the paint and wipe off with a dry MF towel immediately and follow with a MF towel dampened with water to remove any residue that may be left behind which will be very minimal if any then dry with an additional towel if there are any water spots left. It is much quicker than it sounds and hasn't given me any problems yet.

I've been experimenting before I do my whole 4x4. White is tough with Opti Seal, even more challenging with Opti Coat as you want complete coverage but hate to overapply and waste product. Almost impossible to see either of 'em going on.

Took a page out of Corey & Chris' book and tried MF instead of a foam pad. Seems to be easier to see it go on and lessens the high spots considerably. Lights off in the garage and Brinkmann in the other hand works well.

Thanks TL, Yeah when working on white (especially something big) you really need to work fast, work thorough, stay focused and have a good memory as to where you left off on the other side as you run around the truck with the ladder to get the other side. I was actually able to do this truck, the Black Toyota Solara that I posted some time ago and an older Volvo sedan all with one syringe full of Opti-Coat 2.0, a little really does go a long way.

It happens from industril fallout, brake dust, etc. It get's imbedded into the paint and Ironx works amazingly to remove it from the paint to make sure the surface is as clean as possible before polishing.

This particular customer owns a hobby/model airplane shop situated directly across the street from rail road tracks so most of the iron that gets on his truck is rail dust from the trains going by all day long. The dust settles on his truck and eventually becomes embedded into the paint causing little rust specks all over the paint.

The owner of the truck sent me this picture on my cell phone last night.

Yes TL I applied it to the side trim, mirror housings, chrome, vent visors, headlights, fender flares and bumper plastic. No the glass was left as is.

Hmmm, I'm gonna have to give this some thought before I finish the truck. If one wanted to remove OC for some reason compounding black plastic might not have such a good result.

Props Dave!

I just bought a similar truck (just black) and did the first round of polishing on it. They are a job for sure (lots of territory) but fortunately there are no bad angles or anything really, just straight polishing.

That looks great though - I can see why the customer is happy with it.
