Who cares about Wheels?

Well......

Honestly I find the brushes combersome.
And I wash and coat my wheels inside and out each time I take them off at the end of the season before storing them. I also make sure the calipers are spotless.

I don’t feel it’s totally necessary to have the inside of the wheels spotless every time I clean the car. Only way I really can do that is to take them off the car. I know they are protected.

Just me.
Some wheels can't be barrel cleaned every time, your wheels for sure can't be but obviously your wheel faces are always spotless

Not sure why, but i never even tried to bend my speed master.

Dirt on the barrels splattered to me first time using speed master hehehe. Now i know better :)
Glad you haven't bent it, no need to IMO. Like the old saying goes..."Just because you can doesn't mean you should!"

No, mine suck to clean, period.

TBH the insides clean off with warm water at the end of the season.... the coating (McGees btw) works great apparently.

Feel like the title of this thread should be “who DOESN’T care about wheels”. Have to have clean wheels!

My main tool for cleaning wheels is a microfiber and my hands.
I can get my fingers in small spots :xyxthumbs:

I agree, most of my customers are pretty regular so I never really have to do nasty wheels that have been really abused requiring a hammer and chisel to clean. And my own two cars ( while not up to my standards all the time ) requires no more than a APC and dedicated wash mitt to clean. Between time with my family, ministry, animals, customers, I just don't have the energy to always get my own cars done. He** I'm embarrassed of the way my own mothers car looks.

Quick question:

I do rinseless washes all the time by choice. I already got my technique down for washing wheels and tires.

Any tips on how to rinseless wash wheel wells? This is one area i suck. I cannot reach deep enough with a wash mitt. My brushes do not do a good job. Aside from taking the wheels off, anyone with tips please?

You need to take your detailing to the next level by getting yourself a Worx hydroshot battery powered powerwasher. I used to use a 2 gallon hand pump to rinse off the wheelwells, tires and wheels but the Worx hydroshot battery powered powerwasher made my life easier and also had a side benefit, strong enough to use to do traditional car washes.

I still do WW and RW's but the Worx hydroshot battery powered powerwasher is always used for the wheels, tires and wells. Check it out and let me know what you think. Btw check out the Sun Joe battery powered powerwasher as well if you have more money to spend.

Drop me a PM if you've got any questions like attachments.

Thanks Klasse! I never do traditional washes. Just does not want water in the garage/driveway.

How do you dry your wheel wells after using hydroshot? I saw that before but a youtube review said there is little pressure so i scrapped it.

No problem!

I don't dry them, let them air dry but I have a small car. As far as the pressure goes, well, it's suits my needs just fine! It's waaay more than my 2 gallon hand pump but waaaay less than a normal power washer, think along the lines of your garden hose but different spray. You can actually hook your hose up to it when it's allowed and it has even more pressure.

Not sure why a reviewer is so hard on this machine, you have to understand going in what it does and what it doesn't do. I've been using it since the fall and haven't looked back. That said, if I knew about the Sun Joe and it only costing $100.00 more I would've bought it instead but then again the Worx is MUCH more portable so for now, it's all good but I will end up with the Sun Joe next year, I know myself too well.

Yeah, set your expectations just right. Agree.

I will look into this and see if this will work for me. For now, i am hunting for a good AIO but i got my sights on optimum poli-seal. Big fan of OPT. I usually use ONRWW and OCW.

Thanks again!!! :)

Re: Who cares about Wheels?i

Right now i have A2Z all wheel cleaning on the shelf but i can't say i have a favorite wheel cleaner. i find they all work pretty well so i often buy the largest bottle i can find because i go through it so quickly. Most of the cleaning action is done by my hands. i have a dedicated bucket and sponges i use for my wheels. I can easily clean all the surfaces 99 percent of people see but it is those spots i see while i am down there that i can't reach that drive me crazy.

i soak them with wheel and tire cleaner.
scrub the tire with a brush.
clean the wheel with an assortment of sponges, some meant for scrubbing.
blow them dry with my blower ( can't live without the air dryer )
apply tire shine.

have never tried any type of coating. should i be doing that?

Dave

Hey Dave, pick up some Chemical Guys sticky citrus because it's concentrated. That 16 ounce bottle makes 96 ounces total

Thanks for the tip, i will try that.
When i buy the small spray bottles at the local store, i use all of it in two or three car cleanings. I have three vehicles so this means i am buying this every week or two.

Well...coating your wheels would help in cleaning or maybe buy some Sonax wheel shield, stuff is awesome! Also I'm sure Meguiars has a bulk wheel cleaner in their pro line, surely someone can chime in with it. That said, Megs wheel Brightener may be sold in bulk but is very strong according to many and isn't really for maintenance washes, please be advised.

Griot's Garage sells there AWSOME wheel cleaner in gallon sizes, wait for a good sale here and use one of the best out there, amazing product for maintenance or fairly dirty wheels!

As much as it is a pain, I think the best route is to coat your wheels during a "wheel's off" detail. I realize some don't have this capability, but every spring I take down the summer wheels and give the wheel and the tires a good cleaning. Unlike Monica, who sets the best example, I only lightly clean my summer wheels after taking them off in the late fall. I typically use Tuf-Shine +/- D108 to clean the tires. Wheels usually get IronX and TarX (or equivalents) and then get cleaned with 3D BDX. After that, I prep with Gtechniq Panel Wipe (or whatever I have at the time) and lay down a real coating. Right now, my summer and winter wheels are coated with WG Uber Ceramic. In the spring, I have some TAC Systems Shine 70% that I'll use.

In terms of regular cleaning, I simply use whatever rinseless or 2BW soap I'm using for the car. Usually the Speedmaster brushes and some boar's hair brushes for the visible parts of the wheel. I clean the wheels last since I like to spray the rotors with Hyde's Serum Rust Stopper (it works OK) and wipe the run-off. I maintain the wheels with Hydro Blue, Wet Coat or Hydro2 every couple of weeks. (I don't think these silica sprays last more than 1 month in general, and wheels take an awful lot of beating.)

Tires. Tires are a PITA. TW Endura Shine has been the best for me, but I'm the kind of guy who likes shiny tires (not greasy). I have been liking 303 Tire Balm.
