I love it! I got a dehydrator last month for Valentines Day and have been trying out different spices and flavorings.

I am on my 12th batch. It is coming out really good. Any of you make your own jerky?

I do! I don't have a dehydrator though. For V-Day I got a kegerator. I was just in Tampa this morning, I should have came by and stole some.

I have made two batches since Christmas when I got my dehydrator. I use an electric deli style slicer and cut up some nice frozen sirloins about a 1/4" think. Cutting the steaks while frozen gives the slices a nice uniform look and is much easier to slide back and forth then a raw steak.

So far, my family likes the teriyaki and I like the hot & spicy or the original (with some fresh ground black pepper added). Last weekend I picked up a few new seasonings and a another 5 pounds of top sirloin, so there may be a new batch soon!

I am making a few batches this week. I will bring a bunch to Detailfest so if you guys want some let me know.

If I can make it Saturday, I would love to try it.

I had a friend who made Emu jerky. It was phenomenal. Yes, Emu not Emo. The jerky did not cut it self and wear skinny jeans.

You guys are too much....Beef Jerky, nice warm weather....I mean, what could be better..?..besides the obvious..?..(detailing cars)... NO, WAIT...

Yup. love it. Make it all the time in the summer to take golfing. You don't need a dehydrator, you can make it in your oven. Trim fat, cut strips of beef 1/8" thick, marinate in spices, lay on oven rack, put rack in highest position in oven, set oven to lowest temp (typically 170), crack the door a bit to let out moisture and keep the temp down. It takes about 2 hrs depending on thickness.

Fav recipe is:

1.5 - 2 lbs thin cut round steak
2 tsp Worchestershire sauce
2 - 3 tsp Fresh coarsely ground black pepper
1 tsp Sea salt
Crushed red pepper flakes to taste

Mix, let sit for 30 min.

Most people use beef eye of round, but I prefer to use london broil. It stays much more tender and turns out great.

You only marinate for 30 min? I marinate for 12 or more hours... I like to taste my seasonings in my jerkey.

I personally make deer jerky in a dehydrator. I make it from deer burger, soy sauce, Worcestershire, Tabasco, garlic powder, pepper, and liquid smoke. It's good stuff!

you guys ever try Biltong? It's a type of beef jerky from South Africa. One of my buddies brought it on a camping trip and it was right tasty. I'd have a chunk of it in my pocket with a pen knife to cut off a piece (like the guy in those old Irish Spring commercials) right now if the place to get it here wasn't so darn far away...

You guys are freakin lucky/spoiled my idea of good jerky is from Costco....

haha it's cause as you get older and the taste buds get deader, you need to try more things just so you can taste your food again!

I sometimes make scrambled eggs just because I feel like the taste of tabasco and it tastes better on eggs than on toast...
