Who reads this forum?

im the #3 too, reading and buying,. learning something new everyday, great site

I mainly read this forum to better take care of my own two vehicles, but don't shy away from detailing cars that belong to family and friends.

I started off doing my own cars but now do (most) all comers at my home. It is my only income. I don't consider myself a pro but much more advanced than I was four+ years ago when I started. If I ever get the chance to become proficient with a rotary I'll consider myself a semi pro.

Well I just put my first order in and I basically I'm a #3. I have always taken good care of my cars since my very first car and well now I have three. Ever since I ordered my products my family has become very close to me, they would like to have there cars detailed hahaha. That's okay because I need all the practice I can get, I'm just a beginner here and I enjoy coming in here and reading and learning lots. Plus, people here have a great sense of humor which makes learning more interesting.

I totally agree, the way you present your self and your vehicle represents a part of you. Well that's just me.

I detail my daily driver (2003 Jaguar S-Type V8) and my wife's 2001 Nissan Quest. Occasionaly, I detail my Mom's 2000 Mustang convterible and my Sister in law's 2006 Lexus ES 330.

Instead of golf, I detail!

Number 3 This is my therapy from the real job. My black 93 BMW beater and the others gold minivan. Doing a few friends cars as a Xmas present. I'm starting to look at the fishing boat but I do not think even I need that much therapy.

I agree with your statement about therapy. I started getting into detailing this past September. I look foward to it each Saturday or Sunday. I find it a time when I can just get away from the work pressures and family (2 kids, 1 a teenager can try ones patience) but also I find a great deal of satisfaction when the job is complete. Detailing my car is one of the only things I find I have 100% control over........very rewarding feeling at the end of the day too.

This is my only job and supports 90% of my household income. I'm mobile and have been doing this for 10+ months now. I simply love it.

I do alot of show cars but have not attended any and served anyone there.

Since most of my equipment is already out, I wash my truck about 2 times per week. I wax it about every 2 weeks. Full polishing occurs every 90 days. The interior stays really clean. I'm more anal about it than anything! It's wiped down and vac'd every 2 days.....if not more!

justin, i don't think that is anal. a dirty car is gross. i think that is cool. can you get my son to clean his room like that?:righton:

(1) Do most on the site own detailing companies or do it as a side job?
My ‘side job’ is indirectly detailing, insofar as I write product reviews, application instructions and detailing book (s)
While in college I had a detailing company to supplement my non-income

(2) Do most have a show car or two?
I detail cars for Concours d’éléganceentrants

{Knowledge unshared is experience wasted}

i think im all three. 1 i do washing and detailing everyday for a car wash, but do the real details on the side for money, will be going full out with my own business soon.need a client base.
2. my car is usually in show condition and will eventually be a track and show car.
3. its currently my DD and i keep it pristine

With 4 cars, a van and a pickup truck I guess I would be no. 2. I have been detailing my own cars for a long time and I really enjoy doing it. I still have a corvette that I purchased new in December 1985. After 22 years the car is all original and still looks great. One of my neighbors sees me detailing my cars and the time and asked me if I wanted to detail his BMW 745i for him a couple of weeks ago. I told him no because I'm affraid if I started detailing other peoples cars it would become work instead of something I really enjoy doing. I did gave him the name of my friend who deals in high ends cars and also does exotic car repairs and detailing.

I write computer software for a living and I mainly work out of my house. If I leave my house on business it's usually catching a plane and rental car. With no commuting to work I don't end up putting many miles on any one car. I try to keep all my vehicles in pristine condition. Detailing cars is a great change of pace from writing software. It helps me clear my head. I grew up in the Detroit area and I have always loved cars.

I also am a #1, with the only income in the family untill my wife gets out of nursing school. having to take care of a family of five, i have to really bust my ass living in very expensive south florida. I do mostly high end cars and bikes etc. , so that still keeps it interesting. i have a back ground in engineering and over 15 years in the dental lab bussiness also. I started doing this fulltime after i got fed-up with owning a bussineess where the dentists still dictated every aspect of my bussiness.Cars and bikes have always been my hobby and i still have my Z-28, my 17 year old has his 89 stang and my 13 year old has an 87 5.0, to start learning about cars. I also have to take care of my wife's chevy conversion Van.Bussiness is good as long as you're willing to bust your behind and as with all of of us ,we simply enjoy what we're doing.

Consider yourself lucky that you don't have to drive so much. I drive 80 miles round-trip each day and boy does the front end get dinged. I'm finally getting a clear car bra on Friday.
