Who's planning to use Optimum Gloss-Coat?

Interesting that there are so many strong opinions about Gloss-Coat and it's not even really in anyone's hands yet.

I think just like there are a lot of people who have stated over the years that coatings weren't for them, because they liked to rub on their car too much, or try different things, that OC 2.0 wasn't the best match for the enthusiast community (of course there are applications where it really excels, I like it for wheels and Swanic mentioned that and his SUV roof).

At the same time, I'm sure the pro installer community (who reportedly was, in some cases, being undercut by uncertified applicators using OC 2.0 instead of OCP) was a lot more vocal since it was their livelihood at stake. You guys know that stuff is true, because we've even had members here talk about how they were getting back-channel OCP when they weren't authorized.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this all shakes out once people start using the product.

i'm interested in trying it for wheels, but i just wish more information was going to be released about it by the manufacturer. If this a silica based coating or is it still the opti-coat resin based coating ??

Opti-coat was very unique compared to other coatings in (especially unforgiving) application, removal and feel. It always left the paint feeling grippy and dry, and was a water spot magnet. And removing those water spots was an absolute nightmare. (reload or hydro2 was a must after OC application IME)

I wonder if gloss-coat resolved any of these issues.

I probably won't use this. The thing for me is, CQ has been around so long and has such a proven track record of working well and lasting long. It's also much less money and comes WITH an applicator that is proven to work well. Even the new Optimum Gloss Coat comes with the same yellow applicator that sucks up way too much product. Is anyone from there listening????

CQ also has a prep type product (Easer & IronX), a maintenance type product (Reload), and even a soap (Reset). While I probably wouldn't be too interested in the soap - the other products are essential and useful. I don't see Optimum offering similar products.

I may be in the market for a coating in the next 2 months, depending how Synergy holds up. CQ seems to be the market leader for me. Optimum says they d/c'ed OC 2.0 because there was "confusion" with OC Pro.

There was no confusion with me. They were 2 different coatings: one pro / one not - now changed to: ... 2 different coatings: one pro/one not. Same issue / same "confusion". There was no confusion with anyone. They offered one pro coating & one enthusiast coating - now same thing. If it was real "confusion" - they would have just changed the name of OC 2.0 to distinguish it from OC Pro more.

I don't know if we will ever know the real reason 2.0 was d/c'ed. But, I wouldn't be surprised if we see it back on the market again - possibly with a different name. So far, seeing this from an outsider -'the whole thing seems like a bit of a misstep. To me, Opti-whatever-it's-now-called has out priced itself as well.

These are the reasons I'm probably not interested.

Reset is a really standout car wash. I think you should give it a try, especially if your car is coated. I personally use it on my non-coated vehicles because of the insane cleaning power and lubricity. I know, how much different can a shampoo be, especially one thats just a pure cleaner. but trust me this product is top notch. If you have a really filthy car this would be the first product I would suggest.

not sure I would use it on a waxed car. I know they say you can dilute it to ph7, but I still would be weary as this shampoo really strips oil's very well.

I don't buy the confusion with the pro version. I can't buy pro and that's OK because I'm not a pro. I was perfectly happy with the performance of OC 2.0 which I successfully applied to 7 cars.

Now they discontinue 2.0 and replace it with less performance for more money? I'm sure my disappointment will ease when I try one of the many alternative 2 year coatings. I will not be trying the replacement; opti-whatever.

From my perspective, a marketing blunder of the highest order. Ask Coca Cola how the "new formula Coke" worked out for them.

i've seen several people online saying that some unscrupulous pros and/or others were selling 2.0 as Pro to customers and charging Pro prices.

you are saying you understand the difference but you aren't in the demographic to get a car detailed by a pro and have a program like that sold to you. if part of the reason for the name change is that, then i'm definitely buying it.

but honestly i have been told directly by OPT personnel that this is the next evolution of 2.0 in performance, as demonstrated by the bullet points in my earlier post. so...the new name seems very fitting either way.

it is surprising to me that so many people are skeptical about the new product but at the same time people are tripping over themselves trying to get the last few tubes of 2.0. the guy who made all of this brought the whole concept to market with 2.0, what makes you think he'd purposely sabotage his own stuff? the conspiracies are nuts. actually, looking at the whole thing, it's amazing because we are talking about a boutique car care product. and i've seen people calling each other names, attacking the integrity of OPT staff, etc. pretty sick reaction to something so trivial.

I'm kind of a pessimist when it comes to new products and prefer to wait on unbiased reviews before offering said product to my clients. Maybe Opti 2.0 being a permanent coating was lasting too long and eating into profits made from repeat customers? Lol!

Changing the name of the product was a very bad marketing idea especially considering Opti 2.0 was such a successful product! People know and trust Opti 2.0! Should have been Opti 2.1! Lol!

New Coke worked out pretty well actually. It allowed Coke to regain the sales lead it had recently lost to Pepsi.

I can't wait for reviews of this product. I think people are going to be surprised, in a very good way.

Time will tell.

Remember people...we really won't know anything about this product whether good or bad, for two years! I will not even consider it until I see some two year reviews. I'll use another proven brand during this time.

What real proof is out there regarding the durability of the "proven brand"?

In this class of Consumer Coatings, there is no Warranty, so in my opinion, all of these claims are marketing

I have no doubt that some of the claims are accurate or even understated, but to say that you are unwilling to try a new product because it is unproven is somewhat unrealistic. It is obviously your choice

Gloss-Coat comes from a company that has developed a reputation for very good products; some even best-in-class

With Gloss-Coat, I believe they have addressed the main concerns the Hobbyist Detailer had with OC 2.0, which were that it didn't look as glossy and didn't feel as slick as other products in the same segment

I personally will wait until I have seen reviews of the ease of application, gloss level and self-cleaning properties of the new product

I did notice that any claim of thickness of a layer of Gloss-Coat is absent from the marketing materials thus far
