Why are the cars we drive so un-efficient?

I wouldn't mind a diesel :D
diesels rock:righton:, gotta love being in an 7K lb truck and running 12's while getting gas mileage thats on par with some cars. I'm waiting to see what the Benz Gwagon ends up with the new V8 diesel and not the Blutec 6. Though the E320 Bluetec is crazy, not that much quicker on paper then the E350 but feels as fast as the E550, the torque band just slams you to the seat.

I really wish one of the Big 3 would offer a mid-full size suv with a diesel, Tahoe + Duramax + Allison tranny = :righton: .

I don't think their out yet, funny part is you'd think they'd use a 6 cylinder or the V8 for better mileage but they used a V12 lol. If anything though one of the celebs would have it first as LA is the only place that has a Hydrogen station, think theres one other place but can't remember where it is?

Why not just get a full size Suburban with Duramax and Allison tranny?

I will....once you tell GM to start making them:D

THis thread makes me want to go out and stomp on my Cobra tomorrow and see if I can burn thru a tank of premium gas in one day and average <12MPG.

Hahahaha, dipped down to 12.6 MPG yesterday in my GTO. What do you have done to the Snake?

Not much. CAI, 2.8 pulley on the supercharger, mangaflow exhaust, custom tune. She is dyno'd at about 480/480, "all show, no go".

I have been trying not to lean on it too much and stretch out my gas as long as I can. So far the best around town is about 16.5 but if I am not careful I can get into the 12's with little effort.

^Must be nice, change 3 parts make extra 100hp.

Greg, how many parts did you change to get that extra 100hp over stock?? lol

I am currently at 13.4mpg for my current tank. I am going to push the go pedal a little harder for this thread tomorrow.

Yeah it is nice but it makes the resistance to the addiction that much harder. Putting a GOOD CAI will net you 35..it is insane.

at the end of the year GM will be offering hybrids on alot of their vehicles including the larger SUV's like the Tahoe/Yukon which is supposed to net a 40% gain in MPG. In my opinion the extra cost to purchase a hybrid version of a car as oppose to the regular version of the same car isn't really worth it. I am sure as time goes on and hybrids become the norm in all these vehicles things will change. I really do like the diesels though. It is cheaper to refine diesel and I love the diesel motor. I don't think that flexfuel ethonol crap is the answer though.

The Hybrids in truck form are not worth it, take you a long time to recoup the cost. Diesel on the otherhand, although a little more expense then regular gas, its the power I love. Plus the good mpg equals long cruising ranges witha large tank. But a simple chip/tuner upgrade, intake, full exhaust = a torque monster on diesel engines :righton:

Predator swaps Duramaxs and Allison trannies into GM vehicles (Suburbans, H2's etc), but they cost a pretty penny, found an Duramax G2 for sale for 120K.

I find that some people that buy a prius, civic, smart cars hybrids to save gas but they still drive with their foot to the floor and still burn a lot of fuel.. lol

Yeah it's pointless :D. You basically get the MPG given on the window if you drive like a GRANNY. I would do that, but people get PISSED even if I drive 5 over the limit. They want to drive 15 over the limit!
