Why are Threads being Deleted? (Admin Note: Threads are not deleted but moved or closed to maintain civility)

Just a word of advice... As a business owner one of the first things you learn when someone sends you a letter or e-mail that "tweaks you" is write the letter in response, then throw it away and start over. Trust me on this, I was a contractor and I did work for many City, State and Federal agencies, the letters from some Project Managers used to send me to the moon. I'd sit down write a response that would bash his knowledge, qualifications and anything else I could think of, laugh and then toss it in the garbage. I would then write the letter that contained only the facts and figures, I kept the personal attacts out of it. In the end mutual respect would be garnered and helpful insight would be borne by BOTH sides.

+1 i put an hour delay on most of my e mails. That way even if you do send it you got some time to cool down read it over and cancel or edit it if needed.

This is very insightful and a great strategy (very clear thinking) :props:

Hi David,

The threads were not deleted as we don't delete threads here on AutogeekOnline but we do move them to the Moderator's forum if enough members start taking the thread downhill with their comments.

There comes a point when the negative comments made by a handful of forum members make it so the thread no longer provides enough good information to outweigh the sad turn the thread takes.

And we appreciate your feelings...

It's possible we could clean up the threads that went south, but remember we're busy just like you're busy and playing clean-up for a few problem members takes time.

I posted this thread and saw your replies, but before I could post back it was closed? Thanks for opening it again.

I understand your stance on the subject, but don’t feel threads need to be babysat if productive interaction is taking place. Yes, things can get heated (like every other car detailing forum out there), but with the assistance of Moderators, they can be brought back to the same momentum once the Moderator’s presence is made (if needed). I’m under the impression that this is one function of the Mod’s duties in the 1st place? I hardly ever notice this being necessary (let alone being done) here, and think it could have helped in these 2 recent situations instead of totally removing (deleting) them from the member’s view. I don’t think it’s very respectful to not only the people(members & vendors) who took the time out of their day to carefully post their views, yet only to get it taken away because the thread gets sidetracked with banter. I can’t understand the need/desire for AutoGeek to remove a thread if valuable and helpful information is being shared like it was.

Ultimately, I understand that this is your forum, but again feel disappointed that such measures were taken just to take control of what you already have. On behalf of everyone that feels as I do, I politely and respectfully request that these threads be re-opened and and at a bare minimum either locked so they can be viewed/referenced or have the off-topic material edited as necessary to your guidelines.

:iagree:

As the Client Service Manager for a medium sized company I learned long ago that an e-mail can be taken the wrong way and when I receive one that does rub me wrong I phone the customer. Our voices convey meaning so much better than the written word. I'd much rather speak to our customer than send an e-mail, but unfortunately in today's gotta have it now world that can't always be the case. The point I'm trying to make is this: The extreme majority of the posters here are well meaning and harbor no ill will. So if you think someone is going after you, it's probably not the case, just an example of the printed word not carrying message of the spoken word. Then again maybe they're just yanking your chain.....:)
