Why Automakers Are Invading Your Privacy

My insurance company has an app and if you opt into the program they track phone use, harsh braking, and overall amount and types of drives and you can earn up to a 30% discount

I figure SOMEONE is tracking me in the Lexus cars for some reason anyway so I might as well save some $$$

Probably pretty naive but $ saved is $ earned

Until the insurance company drops your policy because of some data they collected.

The fine print says they won’t ever increase it over the base rate

My last traffic ticket was in 1985 and they have insured us since 1987

It’s USAA

I’m thinking they aren’t stupid enough to piss 37 years of banking and insurance down the drain

But who knows

Our company offers that too (Allstate) but I’m not using it. I don’t drive like an idiot (in my opinion ) but their opinion may be different .

We've all heard that our phones are probably listening to us, waiting for us to say the key phrase, which differs depending on your phones operating system. Now I know some of us may not be using that feature, given previous posts, but I do, mainly when I'm driving. I used it if I want the phone to start Waze, and where I want it to navigate to mainly. I do know that Google records those requests and searches, and you can go in and look at your history. You can delete it, but who knows if it actually is deleted. Well the other day I was watching an old episode of CSI on Netflix, and somebody asked what would be the best place to hide a body, and my damn phone heard it and decided to do a search, so now I have this in my search history.... that's just great.

And I'll just leave this one here as well. Do they honestly think this will help increase sales.

It says access denied, but it still opens, at least at my end.

It's about Ford filing a patent for tech that aids with repossessions, disabling functions, emitting high pitched noise from the speakers, and fully autonomous vehicles will drive themselves back to the dealer.

There is something about my wife's voice or speech pattern that has tripped the built in Lexus navigation system's voice command on several occasions with innocuous conversation

It hasn't ever happened to me

I also found out answering a call hands free on my Apple Watch counts against me because it is linked to my iPhone

There are days I get pissed off at the app and the program but the last two 6 month billing periods I have gotten 15% discounts on my auto policy so I am generally willing to keep doing it

Keep doing it until you get high blood pressure and it becomes a problem

Definitely scary how much of our data and habits about what we do and our entire profile is out there for these companies. Mine is no doubt now a part of the Elon Musk hive. My daughters license plate says it all.....

Was BORG already taken?

Don't let her park too close to the Tesla, it might try to assimilate it.

Just what we need, more distractions for the driver. Surely this would be a huge safety issue.

Yes. BORG was already taken. Loads of Star Trek ones have been. I had to do a custom spelling on mine too. Looking to meet up with the guy in Cinci with the regular spelling. I met him on a FB Group already.
