Why it's important to clean your pads often...

My method of working with a clean pad is to use simply a new pad. I do this for a few of reasons:

#1: Saved time
#2: Saved effort
#3: After a pad gets dirty I have experienced that the cut is diminished.
 
Are you just using Dawn dish washing soap to clean your pads ?

I do not like Dawn since it is harder to rinse out compared to something Optimum Power Clean.
 
yes, dawn. rinsing it with running water in a pad cleaner is a cinch. ok for cleaning on the fly or for storage.
 
so if cleaning on the fly is not enough, should I just use a couple drops of dawn dishwashing soap and then scrub it in and rinse?

It's enough if it's all you can do to get through a project...


The entire idea behind cleaning a pad on the fly is to get "most" of the gunk off the face of the pad so you can quickly get back to work. It's not about getting a pad surgically clean.

It takes a long time to buff out an entire neglected car from start to finish, especially if you're doing a multiple process, i.e. dedicated correction step, dedicated polishing step, etc.

Except for having more clean, dry pads than you need for the project, cleaning your pads on the fly is the fastest, most effective way to get foam buffing pads being used with a DA Polisher clean enough to keep you working on the car.
