Why not 6.5 pads on DA

Just to add to this thread, here's a video we shot using a buddy's Corvette and in this video we share tons of tips and techniques for all aspects of machine polishing paint.

Video: How to remove shallow RIDS and how to machine apply both a paint sealant and a finishing wax

In this video, you'll see how to inspect and remove RIDS or Random Isolated Deeper Scratches using 4" Spot Repair Pads on a Porter Cable 7424XP DA Polisher.

Thanks Mike, I've watched this one a couple of times already, along with several of your other videos. Big help. Wish I lived closer to Florida for some of your hands on classes.

I started with 6.5....and now mainly use the 4 inch size. No question smaller is way better in my opinion.

Autogeek sells the kits to newbies with 6.5 pads. Is that a little more forgiving to beginners? less chance of burning through?

Just bought a load of 6.5 pads. :(
Will use em up on the fridge, white board at the office, shower, as a swanky bed for a Barbie and Ken?

my ADR6400L using AG Online

+1. I will I havd seen this thread before I JUST ordered a 6 pack of 6.5" pads. Dammit. Reckon I can trim them down?

+1000 to that one!
If I lived close to:
1: WDW I'd have an annual pass and be there almost every freaking day! (I'm serious)
2: AG I'd volunteer to sweep floors so I could take in classes!

I wouldn't worry about it, really. I mean if you have the GG6 it'll do fine, really fine. OTOH the smaller pads price means you can buy more for the same money. (plus the performance factor ain't bad either) ;)

LoL yeah your not trimming those, wont work. If you have a GG6 it wont be a problem, 6.5 Meguiar's pads cut fast on a GG6...LC pads, eh not so much.

I have an 8 year old PC7424.

OK, to all the rookies like myself. After using 6.5 inch pads and then talking to the pros I purchased 5.5" pads. Today I used the 5.5" on my bass boat. What a difference, I was able to maintain speed easier and seemed to be easier to control my passes. I bought the CCS orange, green, and white. I still plan on using my 6.5" pads but will be phasing them out. But If I need to really make paint corrections (bad swirling/scratches) I will break out the 5's way better.

On the PC counter balance weight it read's and I quote " Use Only 5 inch pads only" just for FYI.

Don't worry about the weight 'weights'. That applies to/when the unit is used as a sander. Remember the PC started its' life as a sander...'we' just changed its' use as a 'buffer'.

Ya, I don't think I needed the 6" weight. Live and learn.
