Someone drew dicks on the matte black stripes on my Camaro. They are now scratched into the vinyl. I don't see how I can fix this as they are matte.

Sorry for the poor lighting, I noticed it while I was washing the car in my garage after the sun went down.

This really torqued my off. The car leaves my garage maybe one a month. 7000 miles in 20 months!

Ok, enough bitching how can I fix this????

That sucks. Some people just have no respect for others' property. I don't even leave business cards under the wiper of vehicles I want to detail.

I hear Swissvax has products designed specifically for matte finishes.

sadly to say it looks like the vinyl surface is scratched, but hard to tell from pictures, even if high quality. try to use some meguiars mirror glaze vinyl cleaner or give the strips a hand wash using stronger then usual shampoo(not much a tad) could be finger oils or something, if not then you could always try some sort of vinyl protectant that really drys and is really matte. i dont know why idiots do this, like seriously why do people feel the need to do that i will never understand. if all else fails if you were in a public area go to manager where you were ask to see if they can find out who did it and talk to the police if anything can be done, as they might need to be replaced. maybe some of the guys who do matte wraps will chime in.

Great suggestions. I just bought some Meg Vinyl cleaner. I'll try it tomorrow.

Definitely don't want to attempt to buff it out. If you polish it...say goodbye to a matte finish.

Like others said, some cleaner is your best bet. You also may be able to mask it with a trim product like UTTG. Spread it on the whole stripe. It will blend everything together, then wipe it dry with an MF. You will have to re apply from time to time to keep it looking good...but, it's something.

I backed the car out of the garage to get some sunlight on it. The scratches are too deep!!!! Looks like new stripes are in my future.

Thanks for the suggestions though.....

Sorry to hear that David. I have been looking for stripe polishing advice since I got mine in 2007. Mine are glossy, but, still have not heard of anyone being able to polish vinyl stripes.

Jsut a thought, if you are going to spend the money to replace the vinyl, maybe you could put it toward painted stripes instead.

You can try this product:

Chemical Guys Meticulous Matte Detailer 16 oz.

Chemical Guys Meticulous Matte Detailer is the first matte paint, matte clear bra, and vinyl wrap spray detailer and UV coating protectant in one. MMD cleans and maintains matte finish surfaces while protecting the finish. Working backwards from OEM specs, Chemical Guys Meticulous Matte Detailer is formulated to clean, protect and preserve while retaining the original satin matte finish of paints, vinyl, matte vinyl and clear bras.

ive polished a good bit of vinyl decals before, there just like paint so to say to polish, you just need to not use anything overly abrasive(dont use a compound, try plastX or something like menz po85rd) and it will remove swirling, main thing is keeping heat down so using a DA would be best bet. most just err on the side of caution when giving advice and don't want to be to blame for someone else's mess up when they attempt it. you can always hand polish them if needed.. and as with anything detailing you do this at your own risk. it can be done just as mike P says use the least agresive method first. so i would tape up around the stripes close as possible to the edge(will help polish from going around edges or possibly lifting up the edges)

That is the first "I have done it"answer I have gotten since I came on here. Thank you.

Have you done any 07-09 GT500s? Esp the blue stripes? What did you use and how did they turn out.

I have PO85rd. I could use a soft (gray, blue or red) pad and PO85rd on my old world PC. I have just been chicken to. Really dont want to screw that one up.

I found a place locally that can replace them for $75 next week.

I'm still going to play with them over the weekend just to see if I can improve them any, if they get glossy, etc...

OOOOO I wish you would have caught them in the act. Thats so effed up! I'm sorry to hear about this!

When you experiment with polishing them before replacing take a pic or too and guve us a update I and sure many others would appreciate the help. Maybe you can cancel your appointment if your succesful and forward that money to some AG products.

I ended up cleaning the stripes, applying Meguairs M40 and letting the car sit in the sun. Afterwards, I could only see a couple of faint lines. I had to look for them. Others don't see them at all.

I maintain the stripes with Chemical Guys matte detailer.

They still look the same.

I'm sure they are just masked but they look acceptable.

My car spends most of its time in the garage though and seldom sees any rain.

Not entirely accurate. I was able to lightly polish out the wash lines and light water spots from the matte black vinyl graphics on a 2012 Challenger. White hybrid pad, Menzerna SF4000, and very light pressure. Then I coated the paint and graphics with CQUK. Matte black vinyl looked better than ever and absolutely no gloss was added.
