Will this yellowing come out of engine bay paint?

Since we seem to be stuck on Cosmoline, I think it's time to remind everyone that the OP said he had an oil leak at one time that sprayed engine oil all over the compartment.

IMO nothing is going to "clean" that, you are going to have to remove paint to remove the stained layer, and I don't know what's going to happen when you polish on top of that seam sealer, even by hand.

I'm not the original owner but I have owned it for almost 6 year now and I did blow the engine once which covered a lot of the bay with oil and that oil sat on the paint for probably quite some time. I'm pretty sure it was yellow before that but it didn't help. I've also read that brake cleaner removes cosmoline but don't know if I want to be blasting everything in that nasty stuff.

I did rub on it a little with some ultimate compound and some of the yellow did come out so maybe compounding is the answer?

You could give it a go with the 205 and see if that takes care of it. Try your least aggressive first then work your way up.

I have seen white paints yellow from heat and/or UV exposure in other applications. If you have oil staining that's IN the paint, cosmoline remover or acid isn't going to do it, just like any other paint defect, you're going to have to polish it out. Just for ha ha's have you tried a small spot by hand with M105 or UC?

EDIT: Thinking about it an acid wheel cleaner might do something, but remember you have all kinds of seams and sealers and stuff in an engine compartment that might not play well.

This is ONLY a thought (the coffee may not have kicked in totally yet).

Baked on/in oil, doesn't 'oven cleaner' remove that? Maybe a little shot to see if that may work?
