Window Cleaner- What's the best?

i use stoners invisible glass. i HATE the spray bottle version but love the aerosol. also that that reach tool.

Many cleaners available today clean very well. The method in which we wipe the glass after spraying it can and does vary considerably. Paper towels, cotton towels, terrycloth towels, newspaper were just some of the tools available until the advent of Microfiber.

The towel plays a major roll in the final outcome. The new Microfiber glass towels work about 1000 times better than paper or cotton towels.

I use both Stoners and Meguiar's but I prefer the Meguiar's. For me it cleans better and is much more economical. I always dilute this concentrate with distilled water.

Tap or household water contains all sorts of minerals. These minerals are naturally occurring deep within the earth and are dissolved in the water. Even though your tap water looks clean, as it evaporates it can leaves streaks as these minerals once again reappear.

Meguiar's Glass Cleaner Concentrate

"Meguiar’s Glass Cleaner Concentrate is part of their Detailer line, a group of concentrated products intended for professional use. One gallon makes an amazing 11 gallons of ready-to-use cleaner when diluted with water as directed. It wipes away revealing crystal clear, streak-free glass. Since it’s formulated for professional use, you can bet this cleaner really works."

I have to agree 100% I have spent hundreds of dollars on different glass cleaner and megs diluted with distilled water is by far the best I've ever used. I always use a fresh five gallon bucket that's never been used and distilled water and have been very pleased

+1 for megs detailer line concentrate glass cleaner.....its the best i have tried to date..its cheap and it works well.

stoners is good as well but at $5 a can it is expensive! plus i hate wasting all of the aerosol cans when they are done

I've been using Sprayway with no issues. I figure if the pro-calibrators are recommending it on home theater forums for use in cleaning coated lenses on CRT based rear projection TV's, it's safe enough for my auto glass (and it mentions tint safe on the can).

Stoners, pump spray, surgical(huck) towels. Never a problem.

I recently tried a homemade solution of 1/2 rubbing alcohol, 1/2 water mixture with a couple squirts of Dawn. The solution is great and the alcohol makes it dry fast so there is never a streak. It gets the windows very clean. Make sure you use a microfiber cloth too.

good point:iagree:

Just a couple tips regarding Meg's Detailer line Glass Cleaner Concentrate.

#1. The time to buy is when there are free shipping offers. Like now.

#2. Your wife will be stealing this stuff for cleaning around the house. Buy a few bottles and sprayers and give her her own. My wife keeps a bottle on each floor of the home. I've found that she has been giving some to her friends. Now I know why 11 gallons doesn't last me a year.

has anyone tried zep tint safe cleaner concentrate???? the price at home depot and dilution ratio is undeniably better than meguairs

Heres a toss for the DP Krystal vision cleaner. I love this stuff and it cuts through the grime very well.

On a side note, I also agree on the fact that today's cleaners are very close, and the best clean is in the method and tools (towels) you use.

Having enough glass microfiber is always a plus!

Use distilled water. You can use vinegar with the water - most commercial glass cleaner products list it in the ingredients - acetic acid.

Are you guys diluting the megs with the recommended ratio ? 10:1 ?

Are you guys diluting the megs with the recommended ratio ? 10:1 ?

Yes definately...anytime you mess up the dilution with glass cleaners you really mess up the performance of the product. If it is too strong of a dilution it will streak like crazy!

Meguiar's Detailer line glass cleaner

DP Krystal Vision is my absolute favourite, but it's expensive and the Meg's is 95% as good- that 5% difference is that the Meg's dry's a little too quickly.

EDIT: The Meg's is on sale too, $17.99 so you can save a couple bucks.

Yep, I mix it 10:1 with distilled water. One tip is that using a Pro Blend bottle Proportioner on the top of the concentrate bottle makes it much easier to measure out the amount of concentrate that you need for mixing in the spray bottle.

voting for sprayway. very easy and effective

haven't tried megs detailer line glass cleaner.

do not like stoners IG at all really. i went through a couple bottles to come to that conclusion. seemed too picky in really hot or cold conditions.

There are a lot of good replies to this. I will add:
Stoner's Invisible Glass
Griot's Garage Glass Cleaner
No Streek Glass Polish

The key in my experience is to use a good quality MF cloth. Factors like high humidity and whether or not the glass is warm will affect the outcome regardless of cleaner used. I tend to clean my glass either early in the morning or late evening. I also stay away from Glass cleaning wipes. I have yet to find one that did not streak.
