Anybody upgrade their PC's or laptops to the new Vista yet??
I'm seriously thinking about getting the Home Premium update version.

Any thoughts on Vista from first hand experience from the officially released versions??? My friend has tried it on a 1, 2, and 3 gb of RAM computer and said it was really nice on the larger RAMs.

I've only seen reports on it on the news, but have never seen it up close and personal yet. It looks really cool though.

they stressed that the memory usage is high on the progrom so if you are useing lower amounts of mem do not get it. I think its a waste.... There will be a lot of problems with it at first there always is

exactly, the OS runs more from your RAM than HD. This, inpart helps it to be very snappy while running its 3d rendered interface. It is a nice OS, but make sure you have atleast 2gb of RAM.

ps: make sure you have drivers for everything as well.

I have 2gb ram with a 1.83 Duo 2 processor. Have had my HP laptop for about 3-4 months now and it's one of the best investments I've ever made. I don't do a lot of gaming or anything, but like to listen to music, internet, and a few minor things.

What drivers do you mean? I currently have XP Home so I'm able to simply upgrade to vista and not do a completely clean install to a new partition like I would have to do if I had Professional.

Also, when service packs come out, am I able to download them for free since I already have Vista?

Im running the Ultimate version now. I running AMD 3400 w/2gig of ram and top it with nVidia 6800 pro v/c. So far so good.

Looking good. Sadly I only have 1.8 GHz and 512 ram. I need a new comp!

Do you think my laptop should run pretty well? HP DV6000t. 1.83 GHz duo 2, 2GB ram, Nvidia 7400, umm, I guess that's it. I'm don't know that much about computers, but I did a little research before purchasing my HP and so far I've been really happy for my needs.

You don't game. Do you edit music/video/pictures? I thought 1GB of RAM was overkill if you didn't do much of that. RAM helps with multitasking right... do you do that?

We've got a ton of demo machines here at work connected to 30" flat panels, looks great!

I like to listen to music, have a few internet windows open, design my website, AIM open, and sometimes a few internet games.

I usually have open at least 3-4 windows of different programs open.

When I update to Vista, I shouldn't lose any programs correct? Everything should still be there for the most part correct? It doesn't need to be a new partition, I've already checked, it's basically just an upgrade to my existing partition.

Vista shuld run fine, I don't know about Ultimate, but Basic would run just fine.
I'm running Vista Ultimate at home right now on a test drive in my PC. It runs pretty good. Just alot of eye candy. I wouldn't switch for a few months when issues surface. It's nice working for a computer company, I get to testdrive software.

Looks SOOO much like my Mac OS. Its too bad Windows is one and a half steps behind Mac OS... :(

Eh, and those stupid things you call viruses, spyware, trojans.. AHHH!! I need to stop... :p

LOL They say Mac's never crash...
yeah they do. ;)

In all seriousness, Mac's LOOK a lot cooler, but overpriced!

Ive heards lots of printers and scanners are having issues, as no compatible drivers currently. Friend bought whole new setup this week, and it WONT work together currently.

HEHE.. I will stick up for my brand. In fact, Mac's have become much cheaper than say... DELL! Yeah, it's true.

What product(s) are over-priced? Compare spec's, and Mac comes out cheaper.

I have spent over $5k at Apple on computers over the past year, and not had one single problem with them. Hence why I keep purchasing them. Printers, RAID external HD's, digital camera, all run without problems.

Mac's can also run Windows too.. not many PC's I know can run Mac OS and Windows OS virtually at the same time.

for the record, there are no performance differences between the versions, only certain networking and encryption features. likewise, i ahve a dv9030 hp laptop with teh same specs as the dv6000 listed on the first page, except i have a better vid. car. nevertheless, our laptops are going to be overkill on running vista flawlessly.

honestly, id say wait for a service pack to come out before upgrading. i have the upgrade coming in any day now, but i wont be installing it for a while. rumors of this being the last offical OS to be coming out of MS means that there will just be continual updates and feature dl's, also contributing to Vista being around for a long time. Im in no hurry.

just as a side note, all XP users who purchase the UPGRADE edition of vista will no longer be able to use thei licensed copies of XP in the future. so for example, say you upgrade your XP to vista, your validation code for windows XP is then void. only vista will be able to reinstalled. furthermore, microsft only plans on selling licensed xp's in store for another 14 months.

QFT!

I've never bought anything but Apple computers. I used some windows machines at various work places in the past but would never want to own one. Thankfully, where I work now we run macs throughout. Haven't been on a windows machine for about 5 years.

Their are performance differences. They are based on the specs of your machine. Vista basic will run decent on a low end machine, but Ultimate will perform like crap. Virtually unable to run Aero.
