Windows Vista... Anyone have it yet?

QFT!

I've never bought anything but Apple computers. I used some windows machines at various work places in the past but would never want to own one. Thankfully, where I work now we run macs throughout. Haven't been on a windows machine for about 5 years.

They're such a beautiful thing! Not only are prices comparible, but the quality of a Mac, and Mac products are FAR superior to those of Dell an HP. Not to mention their customer service. They actually speak english! They don't outsource to another country to cut costs either.

I like having a peaceful community of computers where there's no need to even install a virus scanner or such. Ahhhhh... PEACEFUL... :awesome:

Unless you have "brown" stains on your hands, or you are a very dirty person, I have no stains on my 5 month old MacBook. Not saying that you are....

HP doesn't sell a such a cool looking WHITE laptop do they? They all look the same to me.:D

Getting heated up in herrr... :o

the mac commercials are the dumbest out there first of all thers a million different pc's you can actually build your own pc easily yourself, and second why does mac have to do thoese commercials and talk crap about the pc's oh wait yea cuz most gamers enjoy the pc's more then the mac, mac is just hyped up just like anything by apple rite now thers a million things that are better then ipod

You don't game. Do you edit music/video/pictures? I thought 1GB of RAM was overkill if you didn't do much of that. RAM helps with multitasking right... do you do that?
Naa, all XP machines should have *at least* 512 MB RAM (preferably DDR). XP doesn't really open up until the 1GB mark. 2 GB could be conisdered overkill, but its nice to have. Personally, I have a system with 2 GB of RAM. It's not a beast (cost was king back when I built it), but it works pretty well.

I would like to upgrade soon, though, but I'm pretty sure you should have *at least* 2GB of RAM with Vista (not talking about minimum requirements, but rather what will give you the best experience), and preferably should have 4 GB. Unfortunately RAM prices are still too expensive at this capacity and the technology still isn't too widespread yet.

I think the best case scenario would be to have 6-8 GB of RAM. When 4 GB RAM becomes much more common and affordable, I'll consider that as my "signal" that its a good time to upgrade, and heck, might as well get Vista too while I'm at it.:awesome:

well, in XP, 2 gig of ram yields no benefit. its the peace of mind knowing youre ready for the future.

2GB's is plenty for just about every version of Vista. It all depends on what kinda experience you want in Vista. Video cards make a big difference in the quality of Vista. It good to have a card that packs some sizable memory of its own. The prices are ridiculous, and thats why Samsung was sued and lost for prices gouging. Graphic Processing manufacturer's are next in line.

I have a 1.6 LOL im going apple labtop next i think

Looking good. Sadly I only have 1.8 GHz and 512 ram. I need a new comp!

Well, I caved in and bought it tonight. Took exactly 90 minutes to install. Didn't lose one single file in the upgrade process which was great. Simply put in the CD, clicked install, and then clicked "Upgrade." Didn't have to touch it again for 80 min, and then I just had to say "ok" twice to the time zones and date. Left it alone for another 10 min. and it was good to go.

The only problem I ran into was that it tried to run a different graphic card/driver that I don't have or something. It was odd, because after I fixed the resolution and stuff, all the font and taskbars were fine and the correct size. However the screen was stretched from left to right and the desktop icons were a little large. Since I have an HP, it came with this very useful recovery thing for drivers and disc recovery. So I pulled up the start menu and re-installed my NVidia graphic driver. Re-booted, fixed the resolution again but this time wtih the NVidia card and I'm perfect.

Been on it for about 30 min. so far and has some pretty neat features. Nothing too special for me, but I know I was going to buy Vista eventually so I might as well get it now. I figure when the updates do come out, I'll have them immediately so everything should be good!

I could imagine my comp dying from trying out Windows Vista. 2 GB of RAM? I only got 512 MB, that's about 1/4 of what's needed. I'll wait another few years to get Vista =P

For those running the Aero package I recommend you do a search for the "Dreamscene" beta program. It gives you the ability to have animated desktops. Pretty cool.
