has anyone used a normal clay bar on there windows or do you really have to use the "window clay bar"? How well do they work

I also use a mild cutting clay on both paint & glass, works very well on both surfaces.

Yeah, you can just use regular clay, it's not like we didn't clay windows before there was "window clay".

Figured as much wanted to make sure before I went on and did it. Seemed like a waste of money to have two separate clay bars

When I have maxed out a clay bar for the paint (too dirty to knead into a fresh pristine surface) I then use it for the windows

Windows only clay? News to me and a waste of money in my opinion.

I have seen medium and fine detailing clay around. I assume fine clay is OK for glass but what about medium? I guess it isn't a big deal but others around here have more experience that can help us newbies.

Same here - my claybars get demoted from paint to glass, then from glass to wheels, before being thrown out.

i disagree, the first time you get a scratch in your glass from a peice of wanta be discarded clay you will change your tune.

Mothers or Meguiars clay followed by Klean Strip prep-all makes a real clean windshield :)

Hasn't happened so far, and I do pick out any large particles from my clay before kneading.

I use modeling clay for windows...Works excellent and it's $3.00 a lb in any hobby store or model shop..Price makes it very easy to discard when dirty and never scratches...I know many who use it with great results for paint as well....

Glass sits very high on the hardness scale...good quality glass is about 3-5 times harder than stainless steel. So a clear coat will be 100s of times softer than glass...only carelessness would induce a scratch into glass via a clay bar.
