Taking the truck up shortly for a small chip repair. Happened last week on the way to work. Nice day, a few vehicles passed, then ping. Heard it hit. My response was "Really"? Luck would have it, it's on the passenger side about 8" down from the top. Out of sight. Small, but a crack. Don't want it to get worse once winter hits. Insurance covers it. Drove the Xterra for 7 years on the factory windshield. A few boggers, but never bad enough for repair or replace.

I put a new windscreen in my FJ late last year, it was both scratched and pitted. I had polished it with Ceriglass, which worked well on the fine scratches, but the pitting was so bad, driving in to the sun was like looking in to the night sky with really bright stars. I paid for it myself, I could have put a crack in it, faked it with a rock and a hammer, and got insurance to pay for it, but I don't feel right doing that, maybe it would give me bad karma. Anyway, fast forward to this year, driving in to Sydney on the freeway before 6am one morning, lots of trucks on the road, bang, not ping, big bang. I didn't see it, but it must have been huge. Luckily it hit the passenger side, dead centre in front of the passenger seat. Left a small chip surrounded by a half inch circle crack, just small enough to be repaired. So much for avoiding the bad karma.
