I just wanted to post the results of the winter-prep for my truck. I do my winter prep near the end of August. I know some of you think this is early, but I needed to do it before I left for school. The truck is a 2002 F-150.

This year I decided to try Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 for my wax. Last year, 2010, I used one coat of Meguiar's Gold Class Liquid wax. That lasted me from Aug. 2010 to the start of May 2011. That's pretty long for a carnuba wax. The day I even went to wax the truck in May the paint was still beading excellently.

I should also point out that my truck does not recieve any detailing of any kind until the spring. All it gets is whatever they use in the touchless car washes I go to. It also is outside 24/7.

So, here are my steps for this winter.

- Wash with Meguiar's Gold Class Shampoo microfiber wash mitt
- Clay bar with Meg. Ultimate Clay Kit
- Apply two coats of Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 to all paint, including door jambs, tailgate jamb, and under hood 20hrs apart.
- Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant on all exterior plastics, including step bars and lights.
- Rain-X'd all windows
- Turtle Wax Chrome Polish on all Chrome
- Meguiar's Natural Shine Protectant on tonneau cover and all engine plastics
- Meguiar's Gold Class Liquid Carnuba Wax on all chrome, lights, and wheels
- Meguiar's Gold Class Endurance Tire Gel on tires
- Vacuum interior and use Meg. Quick Interior Detail Wipes and Natural Shine Protectant

Everything was done by hand.

I realize these may not be the best products on the market, but I have always had excellent results with them and they have never let me down.

This is my truck after just washing it.

I forgot to take pics after claying, so the next pics are after one coat of WG Paint Sealant and everything else has also been applied.

The engine. I did not wash it. Just applied the protectant straight to the plastics.

Then a week later I got to see the results after some rain. I'm very impressed with the sealant and the trim sealant from Wolfgang.

Thanks FussMan. Yep, its a 2002 w/ 106k miles. The truck will be ten years old this December.

I started at about 8:30am and then finished around 3:30pm. That included little breaks and lunch.

That's a 9 year old truck? It looks brand new. Good job

Nothing like a shiny red blue oval :xyxthumbs:

Gets me to thinking I need to start my winter prep, just need to find time between work and school haha.

Everything was done by hand.

Nice looking truck....especially for doing this by hand!

While there are many products out there and many opinions on products, USE WHAT YOU LIKE AND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU!!!!

Nice job!!!

I think your truck came out fantastic!! :props:

It very clear you took your time and thoroughly performed each phase correctly ensuring that it lasts through the long hard winter ahead.

The products you chose are some great choices and if I may I'd like to suggest in improvement on one. Instead of Rain-X give Aquapel a try. Aquapel is just as simple and easy to apply but seriously lasts 6 months.

Aquapel Glass Treatment, Rain Repellent, glass sealant, windshield protectant, Aqua-pel glass wipe

This will be the 2nd or 3rd year for me and there's nothing else I've seen that even comes close for clarity and long term protection.

Again, some fabulous work! :dblthumb2:

Your truck looks better than my 06 Dakota..... You did an amazing job.

Thanks again everyone.

BobbyG,

I will definitely give the Aquapel a try the next time I place an order on autogeek. You're not the only person who has recommended it to me.
