I just wanted to post the results of the winter-prep for my truck. I do my winter prep near the end of August. I know some of you think this is early, but I needed to do it before I left for school. The truck is a 2002 F-150.
This year I decided to try Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 for my wax. Last year, 2010, I used one coat of Meguiar's Gold Class Liquid wax. That lasted me from Aug. 2010 to the start of May 2011. That's pretty long for a carnuba wax. The day I even went to wax the truck in May the paint was still beading excellently.
I should also point out that my truck does not recieve any detailing of any kind until the spring. All it gets is whatever they use in the touchless car washes I go to. It also is outside 24/7.
So, here are my steps for this winter.
- Wash with Meguiar's Gold Class Shampoo microfiber wash mitt
- Clay bar with Meg. Ultimate Clay Kit
- Apply two coats of Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 to all paint, including door jambs, tailgate jamb, and under hood 20hrs apart.
- Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant on all exterior plastics, including step bars and lights.
- Rain-X'd all windows
- Turtle Wax Chrome Polish on all Chrome
- Meguiar's Natural Shine Protectant on tonneau cover and all engine plastics
- Meguiar's Gold Class Liquid Carnuba Wax on all chrome, lights, and wheels
- Meguiar's Gold Class Endurance Tire Gel on tires
- Vacuum interior and use Meg. Quick Interior Detail Wipes and Natural Shine Protectant
Everything was done by hand.
I realize these may not be the best products on the market, but I have always had excellent results with them and they have never let me down.
This is my truck after just washing it.
I forgot to take pics after claying, so the next pics are after one coat of WG Paint Sealant and everything else has also been applied.
The following are after the second coat of WG Paint Sealant.
The engine. I did not wash it. Just applied the protectant straight to the plastics.
Then a week later I got to see the results after some rain. I'm very impressed with the sealant and the trim sealant from Wolfgang.
Thanks for looking.
