The marketing and pricing of Fuzion may be pure genius. Clearly Wolfgang is presenting the wax as an expensive boutique wax that performs as good as if not superior to other expensive boutique waxes (think Zymol and Swissvax)--and they have priced it accordingly. $175 is a lot of money for a wax--at least it is for most of us. Of course, if one reads the small print one discovers that this includes one refill, and that one refill takes the sting out of the $175 ... but only a little. For those of us who are not waxing multiple cars each week, it will take a long time to go through one Fuzion tub, especially if we like to experiment with other waxes, too. The $175 price, therefore, effectively disbars most who would be inclined to buy it, thereby adding to Fuzion's aura of exclusivity and specialness. We want what we cannot afford.
BUT ... perhaps once or twice a year Fuzion goes on sale. Last November it went on sale, for example, for $100 (including the refill). Suddenly that which is beyond my reach has become temporarily affordable. How can I not buy it? A hundred dollars is still a lot of money for a wax, but I can rationalize the purchase by reminding myself that with the refill I am actually only paying $50 a tub.
So I happily purchased Fuzion on sale last November and am glad I did. It's a wonderful wax. Did I get suckered by a brilliant marketing and pricing scheme? Perhaps--but I'm not complaining.
