Ok so I did my Ranger and it was swirled like crazy, I did the wash, clay 105 and 205 and 3 coats of bfwd.

It looks a ton better but it didn't get it 100% correct, more like 80%

Whats with the wool pads?

I'll prolly go over it again in the spring, but the 105 with the orange foam gave all the cut it had. So I was thinking about going with a wool.

Which wool pad is the best and are there certian types of wool pads?

Are the wool pads all the same or is there numbers of coarsness, like orange/white pads, or are they all the same style cut?

Do you use wool with 105? Do you have to go over it with orange and 105 again or is it ready for 205? And do you make 6 section passes with the wool? Then 6 with orange and 6 with white?

Can you just explain how you use wool pads?

Thanks for reading guys

I would recommend using Purple-foamed wool, and it would be the maximum amount of cut you can get with a DA without using microfiber pads.

You could also try a Cyan HT pad. Those have a lot of cut (more than orange) and finish well.

What machine are you using? If using a DA I would try the MF pads or Surbuf pads as wool doesn't work that great on DA's IME.

If using a rotary the PFW pads are pretty nice, but they don't cut as well as a true wool pad like the twisted wool pad from Megs.

Just check the Edge product line, there are a variety of wool pads like the variety of foam pads.

Well after the first comment, I've been reading all night on the mf system and I think I'm gonna go with that but D300 or M105?

d300 was designed for the mf cutting disc-get both compounds if in doubt

If your car is a daily driver leave it alone. 80% correction is more than acceptable as it is not going to be perfect so dont go chasing after every swirl. Its nearly impossible to have a daily driver in constant show car condition. Its some thing you'll learn to live with.

However, to answer year question, wool if you have a rotary, and surbuf if you have a da. Surbufs cut more then the Megs mf pads.

I used surbuff got the first time today and can't believe how great they are. Highly recommend them.

surbuff is the way to go, YOU DEF HAVE TO FOLLOW IT UP IT WILL LEAVE HOLOS

It's pretty hard to leave holograms with a DA even with a surbuf. You would most likely see tick marks or just micro marring after using them, not full on holograms.

Flex 3401

Traditional wool pads don't work very well with an orbital action, the fibers more or less just move or wiggle around without transferring the correcting ability to the paint.

Lots of people have stated they have good luck with the Purple Foamed Wool pads so you might give one of them a try.

The Surbuf pads work pretty well though for correction work but most people find the Meguiar's microfiber pads to be to grabby at least when using D301

:)

So mike would you recommend the mfda? I read on the surbuf pads but heard a lot of negative reviews on them. And then use D300? And should I mix that with 105? And then follow that with 85rd? Thanks

I agree that the current Meguiar's microfiber pad is grabby when used with the Flex 3401

The Surbuf works fine, you can probably find just as many positive commens and negative. If what you have to work with is the Flex 3401 then you need to at least try it yourself and make up your own mind.

Another option is to add iether a DA Polisher like a PC to your arsenal or a rotary buffer and this will open up more pad optons for you.

As for the Meguiar's DA Microfiber Correction System "chemicals". At this time, Meguiar's only recommends these for factory paint due to micro-marring issues on softer paints. So use them on non-factory paint on your own decisoin and I recommend ALWAYS doing a Test Spot no matter what the product or pad on every car you buff out that's a new car to you.

I don't mix products to create a new product, I know others do but that's usually because whatever product they're trying to create already exists but they don't know about it. So I'll leave that up to you.

PO85RD now called SF 4500 is a awesome finishing polish and it's probably a good idea if we all switch over to calling it by it's new name.

What have you heard negative?

I like Surbuf with M105. I have used this without any issues.
It will leave micro marring behind that you will need to correct.

I also have had real good luck with the Megs MF DA system.
Easy, clean and works well. I have not experienced "grabby".
