When would you use just a wool pad? Is it something you would use when polishing to get swirls and scratches out?

After wetsanding I use wool pads or if you have a really hard clear coat which is scratched beyond belief.

So I guess a wool pad might not be a good idea on my Lexus paint since it is a softer paint

you can use wool pads whenever you want. just have to use the right one. example: if you have lite swirls dont use heavy cut wool. use light cut or finishing wool. depends on po;ish you use. but most people save wool for after wetsanding and extremely bad paint. it will be fine on your lexus paint. i use wool on single stage toyota paint

I am going to try to use the wool on my Accord today but i'm going to start with a blue edge and work my way up.

I tried the LC foamed wool recently (via rotary) and was really impressed with the results. It's much easier (for me at least) to compound with the wool pad than a stiff foam pad - easier to work with, cuts faster, stays cooler. Great for swirl removal and it just required a pass of PO106FF with a white pad to clean up hazing/holograms.

Was the LC foamed wool will easier to control then LC CCS pads? Because I used my rotary the first time today with CCS orange pad and it was kinda hard to control. Paint also got pretty warm. No holograms or burned paint though, so thats good.

But I definitely need something to use with the rotary thats easier to control and will keep the paint cool. I guess LC foamed wool is the way to go.

I felt that the wool was A LOT easier to use than the foam...although I am using the edge system I doubt there is that much of a difference.

I haven't used the CCS pads, but I have used the flat LC pads, and I figure they're similar. And, yes. The foamed wool is much easier to control. Really, the first time I used the foamed wool I wondered why I didn't try it sooner. It's a superior product for compounding. Easier to control. Corrects quicker. Stays cooler than a foam pad.

Awesome. Could you compare the cut of the foamed wool to a foam CCS foam pad so I have an idea of how aggressive it is. What little info I have seems like it would be similar to the LC orange light cut pad.

Just found this, Lake Country Manufacturing Inc.-Products - Pad Application Guide So looks like it is a light cut pad. I think Ill get two of those and the 7.5" 50/50 Wool/Acrylic pad. Except it looks like AG doesnt carry that one?

I just got done messing with the hood of my accord, that's all I could get done tonight, and the wool is a little harsh for that paint. I used the edge blue wool and it left swirls so I went back over it with the white wool and some 106ff and it still left slight holigraming. I ended up using the white foam pad with the 106ff to get the swirls/holligraming left by the white wool pad. I then tried an orange edge foam with SIP to get the swirls/scratching out but that didn't get everything as well as the wool did so it looks like my combination will be blue wool followed up w/ white foam.

Hope my rambling helps!

Mostly when an orange pad and SFX 1 doesn't do the job
The yellow foam pads can be pricks to control at times

I have managed to get heaps of scratches out with an LC foamed wool pad and have it hologram and swirl free. A pass at 800 gives me that

I did a pass at 900 and still got micromarring/swirls. I'm sure it's just really soft paint. I did the same combo on my wifes vw and finished it LSP ready.

try a faster speed. i have found that at speeds lower than 1200 i have had problems with swirl marks and leaving holograms. when i bump speed upto 1200 - 1500 with same combo it finishes ALOT better

So from what Im reading a wool pad is better off being used with a Rotary and not a PC

So if all I have is a PC dont go near a Wool Pad

wool pads and PC have been discussed on here somewhere. i remember reading that someone uses wool with PC and has success. but wool pads are better suited for rotary IMO.
