Wool Pads

With less than 1 hour left on the 25% off and free ship, I pulled the tripper on M101, M205 and thin wool pads.

With my two dark cars, I needed something with more bite using my old PC.

How much more bite does the wool have over yellow pads and M101 vs. M105?

Maybe 25% more cut

They can heat up pretty quickly if you are using a lot of downward pressure
I cooked one and the Velcro came loose, but they were the older version, before LC changed their adhesive on the TPFW

I just take the pad off to cool and switch to a clean one

M105 & M101 should have very similar level of cut

Wool pads are not meant to be used on a PC. Purple foam wool or micro fiber pads would be better choices.

I thought he was referring to the Thin Purple Foamed Wool, which is one step up from.yellow on the LC product page

Purple foamed wool is good for forced rotation, not DA. Thin foamed wool is good for DA units.

You would be surprised how much cut you can actually get from the Megs micro fiber cutting pads without moving up to a wool pad.

Fibers can be a type of abrasive in an of themselves as they cut the paint. So generally speaking any fiber pad will provide more cut than a foam pad and accentuate the abrasive you're using.

Here's a thin purple foamed wool pad in action on a PC removing oxidation of a boat using a one-step cleaner/wax. A faster way would be to put a traditional 7.5" wool pad on a Flex 3401 or a rotayr buffer but sometimes I have guys that are NEW to machine buffing at my boat detailing classes and it a good idea to learn how to walk before you run.

Great you chimed in Mike, those pads seems to be a great addition to DAs like PC. In fact, they also looks very well made from here, should last.

To OP, my opinion is for you to consider why you are willing to use M101 (Named 'Foam Cut Compound') and decided for wool pads?

Not saying I never used a product out of strict instructions, and I'm also aware people achieving success using 101 and MF discs, but for wool I'd recommend something like M100

Meguiars M100 Pro Speed Compound

"Meguiars M100 Pro Speed Compound eliminates severe paint imperfections without dulling or hazing the finish!", and I'm sure it'll help you working 'synergistically' towards the best results.

FG400 from Menzerna can also gives you a good work with wool pads so will the SHC300 (their new compound, from what I read).

I mean, there are plenty of compounds to be used with wool pads, I'd keep my M101 for when I'm after the cut with the Foam pads.

Again, this is just food for thought + my $0.02, do your use and mix of products at will and please, let us know the outcome.

Just to note... in context, M100 is intended for wool pads and rotary buffers. Shortly after it was introduced to the market I used it for the time lapse video I made on how to wetsand, cut and buff a car from start to finish.

M101 seems to be a lot more all encompassing. I never counted how many different tools or different types of pads we used with M101 shortly after it was introduced so I'll eave that for someone else to count but I dare say I don't think I've seen another thread anywhere showing more tools and more pads being used with M101 on a single car.

I've seen you used M100 and wool on a rotary and also saw M101 on multiple tools with diverse MF and Foam pads in a very insightful thread. The results speaks volume on TransAm.

Can you please list 2-3 compounds you believe are good match for DAs and the Thin wool pads cited on this thread? I mean, what would be the compound to reach first (or 2nd) when going with thin wool and DAs?
