I'm looking to get a work/shop light to set up while working on my cars. I can't afford to re-do the lighting overhead in my garage so I'm looking at tripod work lights.

Is there a preference between halogen and fluorescent?

I'm considering something like: Designers Edge L-2005 130-Watt Two-In-One Heavy Duty Fluorescent Worklight.

I can't post the links in here but this appears to be readily available if I want to order it. Is there a better setup for the same price? Thanks for the advice!

If you're specifically looking for something to show swirls and other defects, halogen is the best choice. For general task lighting, fluorescent is more ideal.

Thanks for the response. I went with a 2 light Halogen instead based on your response and after reading some threads on other forums.
