Working lights - LED insted of Halogen

Halogen take so much power & Generate huge heat...

Did anyone try using LED projectors instead of Halogens???


I know they cost more.. but i cant really stand the heat they generate.

This one is an LED 50W That's suppose to generate light of about 400w halogen light.

I havent seen this yet :)

As you said though, the cost for such a thing I'm sure is in the $1K range. I could buy about 10halogens for the price of one LED projector.

Any idea on the price or where you found it?
 
I'm not from the U.S. and did see them for about 250-300$ where i live (And usually prices here are much more expensive than the U.S.)

I'm Suppose to test them tomorrow but was wondering if anyone came up with this idea before...
 
i got 2 for testing, i hope to test them tomorrow.
i will try to take some pictures to show the difference.

Halogen lights are great but I generate enough heat on my own! :laughing:

LED's are bright, cool, and generally smaller than their Halogen counterpart. :props:
 
The problem with LEDs is that right now, the ones available inexpensively are nowhere near bright enough, and ones with high enough light output are hard to find and expensive.
 
Let us know how the test goes and give us the model and all that so if its good we can get all that info. I hate the dang halogen so bad, like BobbyG I run hot anyway and its like standing in the sun at noon having one of those things running near me.
 
I have been looking at the same model as well. My whole house runs off of LED lights and I like how they run cooler and waste less power. I am thinking about trying my PAR 38 LED bulbs for auto detail because they produce around 700 lumens each.

Let us know if you try this light!
 
I got to test 30w & 50w units.

1. here are before & after using the 30w light. you can see the swirls. but the 50w give much more light
2. 50w unit is huge! (see the picture, the one on the ground is the 50w), so it causes stability issues with this small stand.

(I didnt have time to take another shot for the light produced by the 50w).

Conclusion, the thing that got me looking was the annoying heat generated by halogens, working with LED , from my quick testing, defiantly did the trick! no more heat
Cost Vs. power consumption, 50w VS. 500w , you can do the math and figure how long it will take you to get your investment back.
** Safety. Cold LED Vs. Extra hot Halogen
** LED, basically will never die, Halogens, can die often especially when you move the around when their hot, and this happens a lot as you gotta move your light from place to place.

more testing should be done, i only have these 2 samples for the weekend.
*the samples i tested are OEM, not branded, but are suppoose to be of high quality. A good friend is a sales manager for a company that specializes in LED import and lighting project, so he loaned me these units for quick testing. (Sorry I'm not from the U.S. so cant help you with how to get these)

I use a Brinkmann for swirl finding but recently picked up one of these as supplemental lighting. The LED lighting shown earlier is very interesting and the first time I've seen them.

Is the first picture of halogen? 2nd is LED?

Thanks for all of the info!

Usually the LED lights are heavier since they have built in ballast and heat sinks. Most LED lights are fitted with CREE led bulbs and these are actually pretty good. I replace my tactical surefire light with a Cree bulb as well.

As LED lights are still new in the market I think it will take awhile before it gets to the detailer scene. One of the big factors is the cost, but when you think about it you save more money in the long run.

If you have your own place and your not doing this as a mobile business you can save a lot of money with LED lights!
