Working with clear coat failure

My sons girlfriend's car has really bad clear coat failure but she doesn't want to spend the money to paint it. So to be nice I told her I would clean it up as much as I could. I told her I could get better than it is but the clear will continue to peel.

It looks much better. I am still amazed with everything that manufactures do these days with concern to production standards that we still see clear coat failure on newer cars.

I started with some old mcguires compound, rotary buffer, and a wool pad to get all the peeling clear off. Then I used my GG6 with the yellow scrubbing pad and my famous $5 wax.
I didn't use any good stuff because I knew it was still going to continue peeling.

The cheaper the car, in this case an entry cobalt, the lower quality paint and clear jobs. Unfortunately you see this a lot in Florida with the horrible UV rays and constant sunshine.
