Worst/Most Ignorant Detailing Mistakes

Left Simoniz on for an hour on a deck lid, thought I was never going
to get that off. (old yellow tin can simoniz)

Cleaned a gauge cluster with Armor All, turned the plastic cloudy
Armor All was new prouduct just came out.

First time using a buffer burnt the paint right off the rear fenders
of a 74 Nova :D

those were fun times and I know there will be more...

My friend used Armor All Leather Cleaner on some clear plastic parts in the interior lol. She had a cloudy finish.

tonyspop, yes the old Simoniz that everyone used,
also put it on bumpers and wheels in the winter
no rust but had to use bon ami to get it off :D

klumzypinoy, After I used it I hated that stuff, just used it on tires after that

I wish I knew what I did......I have created a ton of holograms throughout my car the last 2 weeks and not sure why. Only change I did was use WMF with a foam applicator which doesn't make sense.

When I learned to smoke BBQ 4 years ago I made mistakes and I'd end up eating a dry piece of meat or one that was too smokey tasting, etc. Eat it , learn from it and move on. But a detail mistake like I made the last 2 weeks is a killer, just have to live with it till I get a DA or Rotary.

Howrd

When I was younger, I used to dry cars with a squeegee.

Burning paint 5-6 times, washing alloy rims with way too strong chemicals.......

Forgeta bout it, you would have to be a Gape Ape to burn paint with a pc :D
I was using an Ingersol Rand air buffer wool pad, though no more
swirls with that method :righton:

Keep the buffer off the rubber around the windows. It's pretty easy ot melt that rubber & put burns on it.

While buffing a roof on a van, I tried extending my reach just a tad too much and fell off the ladder and broke the driver's side mirror glass. It's a good thing I had the van for 2 days (the owner was away on business) I had to stop working and finish up the next day, including a trip to the glass shop to get the miror repaired!

I landed in a sitting position and felt a shcok of intense pain right up through my spine. It took a good 10 minutes of sitting there before I could move. OUUUCH! Man, right on the tail bone :(

The old Simonize can be removed with kerosene or mineral spirits. You have to treat it like tar.
