So, I finally got around to washing the gf's new black altima she bought over Labor Day weekend. As I was washing the roof I noticed in the corner on the passenger side by the rear window there are 2-3 (didn't really count may have been 4 ) spot where it looks & feels like there is a small piece of grit under the color coat or maybe even in the primer layer. Is it worth it to take it back and have them fix it? I know it would require sending out to a body shop and probably sanding that area down and re-spraying, and of course it would no longer be the factory paint, so I'm not sure it's worth it. I figured I'd get some opinions first.

How noticeable is it really?

If they are teeny tiny and it wont effect the integrity of the paint Id let it go.

I think you would be worse off getting it fixed.

I didn't notice them at all until I ran my fingers over the paint checking for any remaining stuck on stuff (first wash since it came off the lot). I think my only concern would be if running the buffer over them will cause any problems. I'll take a look at them in the sun tomorrow and have a better idea and a few pics. By the time I got the car rinsed & dried it was nearly dark.

It sounds like they're not really noticeable at all and even though they are a defect I'm not sure if I'd push the issue, it could come back with more problems than it left with.

:iagree: I can almost guarantee that it will have more problems than when you sent it.

have the same issue on my ridgeline. appears to have a small hair under the color coat above the passengers rear door.

best to leave it alone.

I just looked at it briefly this morning before leaving for work since the sun was shining in the garage. It actually looks more like it might just be some seriously bonded contaminants (maybe overspray or something). At least one bit actually came off. I think I will just go through the whole clay/polish/etc. once I get the products I need ordered for it and see what happens. Either they're just bonded contaminants and will be gone or it's in the paint and will still be there. Also there was lot more than just 3-4 which is definitely making me think it's just something bonded to the paint. They're also much smaller than I thought last night, maybe the car washing solution on the paint was making them look bigger.

You can always go to the dealer to see what they say. You don't have fix it but at least get their recommendation. This way if it becomes an issue it's on record. Make sure they write a repair order so it's in writing. And as always, take pictures.
